im confused. so they have diffrent words but the same melidoy? or is ac4bf just made up verses?
@SeanDagher20 күн бұрын
There are dozens of different verses for this song (as with many shanties) and we rarely sing them all. Any singer can choose any verses they like. We chose a few for ac4bf and here I’ve chosen different ones. When I sing this song live I usually do a combination of these verses, but it’s different every time. Shantymen also often make up verses on the fly. I do that for this song sometimes, too.

The only appropriate way to sing a shanty is epic lyrics! Just as Sean and Crew do!

Losing my cookies good sir fantastic that I just found you in the dark place right now but I have not lost faith in humanity I believe I'm not cut from the same cloth I meant to think too much and do too little my wish one for the genie would be to convey all that I have felt to others let's this place be judged for we are capable of miracles

I loved seeing you in Alexandria, Va. I didn't realise you would have your own set to open the show so that was such a unexpected treat! 💛 The songs were fantastic!! Love your vocals and playing and crowd work!! It was the best of times for sure. Liverpool Judies has such great songwriting and such a great tune to it I really enjoy listening to it.

"Lowlands Away" is my absolute 𝘧𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 out of all of the Black Flag shanties. 💛💛💛 I can't really explain how it sounds different to my ears than all the other ones and that standout quality is what I like the most about it. Almost a minor sound.. I feel like the melody follows an unusual pattern from what your brain is expecting to hear. LOL. Like I said, hard for me to explain. 😂 It's a absolute pleasure to hear you sing in these videos Seán, and these fascinating "Shanty of the Week" facts! I'm learning so much from you. These recordings are superb. Top notch vocals. 👌👌

It has now been canonically established that there is a member of Edward Kenway's crew with an amazing singing voice. But instead of his talent being recognised and having an illustrious singing career, he ended up becoming a pirate. 😂

This particular melody is also used in Gustav Holst's "Second Suite in F" in the 1st movement, but it's subtitled as "Claudy Banks." I think most of the versions of Claudy Banks I've heard have a different melody to the words, but Julie Abbe and Eliza Carthy both use this melody with more of a jig feel.
