You people are nuts. The movie sucked, this scene is terrible, and Dane Cook is a punchline. Carrell should be embarrassed for having made this trash.

can't the producers hire a real guitarist to show Carrell how the chords go - so he can at least change finger shapes as the songs changes chords

I wanted to love this movie because I love Steve Carell but Juliette Binoche and Dan Cook were horribly cast and this family is ridiculously unbelievable.

I liked this movie. Steve did a good job throughout. Yes, I believe some families do stuff like this. Anyway this scene was perfect. Oh and daughter scene "screaming "murderer of love" is very dramatic and hilarious too.

I don't know if this is an american thing but I never knew anyone whose family do a variety show when they get together. That would explain why america is such a show business focused country.
@Marialla.2 жыл бұрын
Other way around. If any families actually do variety shows, it would be because we are a society built by show business, and our mutual exposure to media has shaped us. Show business in america was not shaped by our passion for doing home variety shows. FWIW, I don't know any families that do this kind of variety show, but idk maybe some do. I do know my church one time did a sort of "open mic" variety show night, to try to get people to come out of their shells and have fun together. But it was only attempted once, because it did not go over well.
