I thought you had to run the whacker plate over the blocks to compact them down before the jointing? This step wasn't mentioned and it's a crucial step

Really nice looking job. I doubt that the one I'm about to lay will be as neatly executed, but at least I've now got some handy pointers. Thanks for sharing.

The edging blocks weren't even laid in a straight line, awful! This guy looks like he spends most of his time in an office with his feet under a desk rather than out on site laying drive ways. Really irritating back ground musak as well.

So if you were laying blocks in stages is it better to compact one area and then do the next (especially if it was being done over several days) or is it better to leave it and compact all in one?

Something I don't understand, is how come if it's only sand below the cobblestone when a vehicle drives over them they don't sink and can take the weight? You see some driveways look terrible after just a year huge divits
@janparchanski92422 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm worried about too !
@Alexander_l322 Жыл бұрын
Those driveways are done by cowboys. A proper block paved driveway will not sink or anything.

Disintegrated granite is the best for the bed and the sand on top is called polymeric sand The alternative for the top is disintegrated granite for for compaction and spraying it all with epoxy based sealant All that aside, great video Shows each step of the bricklaying process
@louisfiset98102 жыл бұрын
no its construction sand, the polymeric sand goes in between the pavers and gently watered at the end

Non of this matters if you're getting a rip-off tradie scammer to do it, you'll only get a good job done properly with the correct tools and aggregates if you do it yourself.
@SuperDouginator3 жыл бұрын
Haha you forgot that the blocks need to potrude a little above the edge pieces because when you run the compactor over at the end they sink

Would the paving blocks need to be placed a little higher than the height I want them to finish at ? I ask because when using the whacker I imagine it's going to push the blocks down , if I'm right how much higher would you recommend? I'm using the paving slabs that are in place already to start the block paving so I need them to be the same level when finished

You could do it, but it will take much longer! Pros will have a crew, all the necessary equipment, and get the materials to the site on time. There are a lot of logistics you will have to sort out, but I think the actual labor wouldn’t be too hard, but time consuming!

My home sits on sand that goes down 20 ft. I want to put down pavestones for a driveway, do you have any suggestions on how to prep the ground since there is no rock base below the sand? I was going to use a plate compactor to make sure my foundation is solid. Any tips to avoid a disaster down the road?
@abbaslim96744 жыл бұрын
Buy a few bags of hardcore and make yourself a base. Make sure you compact it well before you put the sand on top.
@1petrofski3 жыл бұрын
Saturate the sand to 400mm deep then compact with a rammer /wacker in 150mm layers. Then add hardcore and compact again in layers. Should suffice

Hi iam just in the process of take my drive back up I put it down my self over 10 years ago as the blocks have moved a bit through pressure washing and age . Can't remember do the bocks have to be slightly rased to the concrete edging blocks so they will level of after wacking down
