Nepetalactone is a very cheap and readily available starting material to make secologanin, since catnip grows wild in most semi-forested areas in North America.

When these aberrations occur and the male plant produces seeds, are they viable seeds? Can they germinate and grow?

As an early career scientist in ecophysiology, this is a pleasantly underrated talk - thank you, Dr. Hetherington, for teaching me more about stomates! An outstanding communicator, mentor, and the research is vanguard of global change responses.

Smell is a subjective thing - the ginkgo fruit don't smell like vomit to me at all. I think they're more like a combination of ripe papaya and sweaty feet; and while not exactly pleasant, I don't find it overpoweringly bad.

I recently discovered the Ginkgo, saw them in the Japanese gardens in Dubbo NSW Australia when on vacation. They were beautiful trees not so old maybe 40 feet tall and in colour. I collected seeds and now have 16 trees that have sprouted. They are a fascinating tree that should do well in our area. I have not spotted one in our town of Yackandandah that has a lot of deciduous trees. We have more than an acre, with many maples and some oaks of different varieties and the golden Ginkgo colour will make a great contrast in autumn. I really cannot fit 16 trees on our block, but will plant as many as I can. Family members are keen on the leftovers.

Stop collaborating with urban planners and just give seeds to poor people and join the radical urbanists. First the scientific community has to decide if it's the people (human or otherwise) or power that get the fruits of your expertise. It all needs to be turned on it's head

playing by the rules isn't possible. Expecting 'the experts' to actually be able to change anything inside their institutional cages is foolish, arrogant too.

Very instructional practical ways for botanical gardens and other institutions to increase the general public awareness of and interest in botanical matters. ~ Animals are often endangered because of habitat loss and destruction, which includes the degradation of plant life . I think illustrating in specific terms the reliance of animals on the flora of their native habitat would be a good way to demonstrate the important and complex role that plants play in the very existence of higher life forms.
