Just this past weekend I went through all of this, exactly, but all calculations made in feet (468 / freq in mhz) with my grandson. I have the Rig Expert AA-54, which graphs. We built a dipole, deliberately made the wire a few inches longer than calculated. The dip was offset just as you showed. We recalculated from there, cut 1.5" from each side, centered the dip right around Ch. 20. SWR was 1.5 on Ch. 1, 1.2 on Ch. 20, and 1.4 on Ch. 40. But he got to see all this first hand. A great lesson! He could not transmit... he had his Dad's CB, but could not find the microphone.

Calum - When I started learning the Ham Hobby 3years ago I went to your KZfaq site for all things Radials. Still do. So I have a new question. Does it matter if the length of the radials are the same or different? For my goto vertical antenna I carry a collection of both 2.5m and 5m radials. Can I use them both or is it best to use only one common length? AC1NY Boston

Ha, well, being only recently licensed as you know, and despite having known the phonetic alphabet for years, I struggle with mine (KK7TPM) because I always want to say "Mama" instead of "Mike" as it flows better and of course "Papa" traditionally goes with "Mama" so-to-speak. I'm working on it though. ;)

How you configure discord?
@DXCommanderHQКүн бұрын
You need 2 x accounts. Create a server and add yourself as a participant.. Then add a voice channel. Your Discord microphone on the remote end is actually your radio (mic) .. (so you can hear yourself) and your speakers on the remote end is the other way around.. Locally, configure as normal. COnnect both. Switch off ALL voice effects / auto loudness / noise removal etc.

Riddle me this. I have a field 50+ metres long and sloping south so the top is 4m higher than the bottom. My shack is at the bottom because it has a low voltage high current solar roof for running deep well pump and i had to minimise loss in that cable. Now i run a dipole from the shack on a 8m fishing pole on 10m rg174. If i were to place the antenna at the top of the field i would gain height, but would feed it with around 50m rg11 because i have that. Will the extra height of the antenna gain more signal than the coax loses?
@DXCommanderHQКүн бұрын
OK, you just need to calculate the loss.. So for a 50m run, on 10m band for RG-11, that's about 2dB. OR you can upgrade the coax and gain about 1.5dB.
@noimnotarobotcanubeleiveit7024Күн бұрын
@@DXCommanderHQ i think having a higher antenna will outweigh 2db by a lot

Bit of a coincidence as i made a similar antenna based on previous experience back in Kent. It was a quiet antenna , less noise. . Decided on a 4 to 1 balum wound on a ferrite Rod. 50m wire in the air. It loads on all bands via ATU. But it's resonant on 30m . Results not bad.. Still testing. Only just found your video.. everyone tells me it's a cloud burner being horizontal. It's 23 ft high. Qrm is Far better. A EFHW was a disaster for qrm at my qth. Going to make an alteration to the feed point for logistic reason as i want to install a homemade vertical antenna as well. The loop is not so hot on 10m. But 40m seems incredible. Although today station i could hear well at Hackgreen were not even audible on my setup. Also no longer can work the Sunday 60m net as all stations are weaker.. Then other stations are good. Radiation pattern is the problem. Still it's low noise. May be able to raise the height at one end.

Well, TBH I'm not an end-fed man. It's a sort of "free lunch" and does everything and nothing (for me!). I think if you have the time and engineering, dipole would be "better".

Im setting up mine with 28 3 meter radials. 4 on each of the 7 lugs. I did run short of wire for the last lug so Ill get 40' more at HD. I only used enough element wire for 40, 20,17,15, 12,and 10. I will order more wire from DX and use the 30m slot for an 80m inverted L. I have an 80m EFHW thats working pretty good now, My intent is to leave both antennas up and switch as conditions dictate. Two people hold a skipping rope. One person holds the rope still, the other shakes the skipping rope left and right: the rope propagates a horizontal wave. Next, while the rope is still held at one end, the other end is swung up and down, then the rope propagates a vertical wave.

I can understand the reason for grounding the center on the antenna side, but if you do this to switch between radios are you not shortening the output of the radio? That could be really bad for the radio if you accidently transmit while its output is shorted?
