It's hard for me to say personally as I'm self taught and may not be the best person to ask, but i think a good way to get into it is just to jump into it, start small and think of anything that could be fun to animate, that being an idea of your own or animating a funny meme or moment from a show, movie, etc. GMod might be a good one to start off with since you can make great or funny stuff without worrying too much about animation quality. If you want to get into animation itself, Blender is something you can look into. Regardless of what your choice of software is though, understand the bare basics of using it before you learn anything else. I suggest watching tutorials about guiding you about what you need to know instead of teaching you how to make one thing as that thing might end up being the only thing you'll remember from it. (I.e. Blender Guru's Donut Tutorial) Once you know how to get around it, you can look into animation fundamentals and practice them (As well as anything else your interested in). There's plenty of videos to look into, but the ones by Alan Becker we're the ones i watched. Getting critiques can be very helpful as well. Can't say whats the best way to do that is tho as i learned as i go and learned from others. Maybe find someone who's knowledgeable and ask them to critique on their free time probably. Finally, remember to enjoy yourself. don't spend all your time reading or using your animation time on studying only. Let loose, mess around, experiment, whatever. don't worry about your quality since your only just starting. making is also part of the learning process. For Gmod, i would suggest Tutorials by DasBoSchitt, but they might be outdated, so maybe use those videos as an example for the type of tutorials to look for. For Blender, i highly suggest "how I approach illustration in Blender!" on Louie Zongs youtube channel. While this is mostly a stylized process video showing how they make their 3D art, they also tell you the basics on how to navigate blender, so me and my friends think it's a good starting point for beginners. When I saw the Remaster64, but then "Who let the Toads Out?" Played, I was pissed because of KZfaq's copyright policies. They would've kept the original, but I get it.. Copyright sucks and I don't blame SMG4.. 😐
