There are rules for the long and short S but as with all grammatical rules they change over time so they might come across as inconsistent. Generally speaking, in the 18th century, the reason why a long s is used next to a short s is because that's a rule. In words with a double S you write it as a long S followed by a short S. Long S is also used in the beginning of words. So the word succession would be written as ſucceſsion. The word assistant would be aſsistant.

2 Bernsteins and 2 John Williams are a little bit confusing because I am not an American. I live in Hong Kong I am Chinese I love western music all kinds such as Bee Gees, Lionel Richie, Richard Clayderman, Paul Marriott, Carpenters, Lang Lang, Yo Yo Ma, Babyface, Platters, Louis Armstrong and more.... Thank you

A heartfelt tribute to one of my all-time favourite Hollywood composers. Elmer was a genius and his many diverse styles reflect this.

While growing up, as a young musician, I wanted to write scores for films. Elmer Bernstein was my idol. When I got to college, I discovered I was a better arranger than a composer. Nevertheless, Elmer Bernstein still remains my favorite, and what few compositions I have written, were done with the spirit he instilled in me.

Because in practice, unless they've just been washed gloves are dirtier than clean hands. Constant glove washing is not something that rare book libraries have the resources for, so it's better to ensure that anyone handling the books simply have freshly washed hands. Gloves are really only something one sees in the movies; in real archives and rare book libraries, you very rarely see them.

6:39 Ruskin does not _believe_ in equality. He wrote of "the radical blockheadism of supposing that all men are naturally equal", that The Guild of St. George would have "no equality upon it", and that "teach, or preach, or labour as you will, everlasting difference is set between one man's capacity and another's".

Hi, I am Garifuna American (both my parents were born in Honduras). I wasn't aware of a Garifuna musuem so thank you for recording this conversation. Truly powerful. There are a couple of mixed stories about the origin of Garifuna people that I would love to hear more opinions on. For instance, the version of Ruben Reyes about slave ships escaping to St. Vincient and intermarrying with the Arawak people. But there is also another version, that Africans were already on the islands long before the slave ships. There is a book titled, They Came Before Columbus by Ivan Van Sertima that talks about Columbus writing in his journal about African findings of plants and art. I am surprised this wasn't mentioned. Also, there is Melanie Newton articles suggest that these shipwrecks are fictional and creates a narrative that because Garifuna people are not indigeneous we can be removed and sent away to Honduras. I would love to know if anyone has read any of Dr. Melanie Newton article.
