Everything leads me to this option. I strained to figure out what to do and the weed fabric I got off Temu is so flimsy and easily breaks apart. I don’t need to tear out cardboard like plastic fabric. Could keep stronger weeds down? I just can’t find the root for certain weeds. I plan to put mulch over it. I hope it won’t cross pollinate weeds in the wind. All of my soil is weeds. Cardboard stops photosynthesis so they won’t grow? What do you suggest?

We had Bermuda grass that we wanted to suppress and I would say sheet mulching with cardboard and about four to six inches of wood mulch on top has given us pretty good results. The challenge comes from maintaining the edges.
@GCGV
@GCGV 18 күн бұрын
@@kaltrex9465 The main idea with sheet mulching using cardboard is the cardboard will smother, blocking of sunlight over the area you want. The cardboard will disintegrate. We planted native like perennial type plants that provide shelter and food for pollinators. We planted pollinator friendly plants packed closely together which has suppressed weeds.

With putting stones on top over time dirt will build up over and around the stones that will eventually be a growing medium for plants, weeds.

Can I use cardboard instead of fabric barrier for river rock application?

From our experience cardboard has proven to be effective in smothering grass and weeds. Putting down cardboard and topped with lots of river rocks sounds like a good plan.

It’s ok to take a pollinator from a pumpkin male flower and apply it to a cucumber female flower?
@GCGV
@GCGV Жыл бұрын
@susanasante9006 Pumpkins like cucumbers have separate male and female flowers on the same growing plant. Pollen from the male flower's stamen must be transferred to the female. There are different ways to do this. We try to minimize disturbances so we use brush or cotton swabs if there are no bees and such that visit.

So why can’t you use the cardboard with print and pictures on it ?
@GCGV
@GCGV Жыл бұрын
Using cardboard with color and print for sheet mulching can be done, following are the reasons we chose not to use them - Cardboard with color and print often contains inks and dyes that may be laden with chemicals that can potentially leach into the soil and affect the plants. The purpose of using cardboard in sheet mulching is to smother weeds and break down over time, providing organic matter to the soil. Cardboard with color and print may have a coating or finish that slows down decomposition. This can interfere with the natural breakdown process and may not be as effective in suppressing weeds or the grass lawn.

Maybe you mentioned it- but what type of grass is that? We are in Austin and have Bermuda. I am so afraid that if we sheet mulch some- but not all- the aggressive Bermuda will start to take over the sheet mulched areas. Advice?? Love the yard you’ve created! Nice work!
@GCGV
@GCGV Жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly, The grass is Bermuda. Installed by the builder. I would say we have about 95 percent success rate. There are areas where we have had to do double lasagna layering of sheet mulch, compost and hardwood mulch. We've accepted that this will be an on going process long term. We definitely are enjoying the results. Please subscribe and like if you haven't. Working on more related episodes. Tell us about your planned projects.
