Too looong get to the bloody point

I have about 150KM on my Timp 5 and the grips are already showing wear and breakdown. Disappointing for $200 CDN footwear. Going to return to Xero Shoes which in the past have lasted me years not a few months.

I am on a long recovery of a knee edema (where quadriceps is attached) and I switched to Altra shoes so I can still have some exercise. Zero Drop has proven to be the only way to not strain my quadriceps too much. Instantly became a fan of Altra just because of that.

the rear-flap or rear-fin also is a very good indicator of heel-striking, i.e. running/hiking movements and habbits...

My Timp 5 are still holding up after one month, so better than the 4😂, so far they are amazing, best Altra shoe for running, again, in spite of some issues, I am waiting for another color in the GTX, I.hate black...and blue, so anything else would be cool. And if they keep holding up, I will definitely buy another pair.

I was walking with these shoes in a rest room, floor surface was wet, I was almost feel, then started walking like a cat as these shoes were slippery like hell.

Are the Timp 5s more durable than the Loan Peak 8s?

Taping is the best you can do. I do that with lots of brands. The tempo is indeed great, but this one is actually better for swift runners.

Rivera 4 are listed on the Altra website as 'standard' fit. Looks like Vanish Tempo are now also 'standard' fit. Not sure if it's a website mistake or if Altra is changing things?

How much length your feet in centimetres?

Do the 8's feel firmer than the 7's to you?

Great review, thanks 😎 I tried this shoe yesterday, really happy, 30km with 2k vertical technical trails, no issued,comfortable, good grip and stable. The original was too squishy and my foot rolled off the side too easily, they fixed that in this version so now I can finally use them 👍 Would have preferred a bit more tread depth and I think I could possibly go a half size smaller but need to try that out, they will be one of my race shoes now they fixed the stability.

Altra it's not the same company it was since they got bought out. The best shoes for the escalantes and escalante racers. However, when they made them a whole lot heavier, a whole lot stiffer, and a whole lot skinnier, I knew they didn't want me as a customer anymore.I used to be an Altra fanboy as well, but they've completely left the original customers behind as well as their original reason for being. It makes me sad.

"Didn't change a single thing"...Altra changed the rubber pattern on the sole completely, just as in the regular Escalante, 😂😂😂 and that is a good change.

I haven't tried either Vanish Carbon yet but commenting to say that would be tragic if Altra discontinues the Vanish Tempo! That's my favorite Altra shoe and probably road shoe in general right now. To me it's that goldilocks shoe that can handle any training and racing. That would leave a huge gap in their lineup if they discontinue it, they need a speed shoe. My biggest gripe with Altra's current lineup is that almost all of their non-Vanish road shoes are just different flavors of daily trainers. Nothing really exciting outside of the Vanish shoes.

Tried the Vanish Tempo on a whim. Loved it, so bought for Carbon Vanish v1. Shame the outsole is EVA and not a decent slab of long lasting rubber.

Chafing again 🤦‍♂️! I don't have chafing problems with my Torin 6, but as you very well know, many have had.

controversial take here but i kinda prefer it, pretty much just the heel and the back part of the shoe that is stiff, the rest is bendy, I still have a couple of the older versions around and they definitely are bendy-er at heel area, i also appreciate that the outsole is more uniform underfoot, since I have to pretty much size up (froodo -wide feet) and my foot doesn't quite align up with the rubber outsoles of the old one, which i know its only a small thing, but i noticed it on the new one haha, i think if you give it some time it will break in too.

Did the shape stay the same on the Racer 2 or did the toebox get more narrow?

@TDMiller one question, since you might have or might find the answer, is there going to be a dark green or other color for the Timp 5 GTX soon? I think I saw a dark green at the time of their presentation by Altra...because I don't like black and the black ones are already available for sale...so I'd rather wait a bit more...so far, I'm happy with my regular Timp 5 s which are still holding up after one month, we'll see if they get past the 3 month without getting torn...😂 thanks!
