It's a practical nightmare if you had to wash the gi after every practice. Like come home after 8 pm and silence is at 10 pm so your washing machine most likely doesn't have that short of a program or can't get it cleaned. And to be fair the constantly washed gi's are really rough and stiff. I know a lot of guys who hang it out to dry right after training but wash it only weekly or if it has been noticeably soiled/starts smelling. But no chance you leave it in the bag after training with any clothing that has been dampened, especially with sweat. I'm actually surprised that the skin infections are as common in judo as it sounds in this interview. Because I've learned judo to be this very very considerate, respectful sport that puts other people's well being on pedestal in a sense. Like you cut your nails, you remove piercings (both of course protect you yourself as well) and you're recommended to be "clean" coming to practice and washing afterwards. But then people will come to training with skin infections like it's nothing and not even warning their instructor/partners about it?

Judo is useless, against boxing, why because you need a make a few movements before making a throw and for a good a punch, just one and i am telling you this as combat sambo fighter, judo is process and is good for opponent who doesn't know anything, sambo is mixture of judo and k1 sports, you can tell what ever you want, but that is true,to make throw you need to grab opponent for arm, shoulder, leg, hip or both, but in meanwhile if opponent knows how to fight you get hook, uppercut, jab and you are finished.

The adult judo curriculum has to be a building block on basic fundamentals and you have to build on all possibilities from those waza. That is what bjj does . They what if the scenario and from 1 Technique u have endless possibilities. Through these u build your green belt , brown and black curriculum. You can still use the kodokan as a template but expand on it . For example 1,2,3 level Green belt or novice, intermediate, advanced and with this being said you have in soild concrete what a true Green belt should look like. Bjj does this very well. Judo also has Combatives form goshin ryu jujutsu . Like bjj they created gracie Combatives program. Maybe some how judo school can covert the Combatives goshin ryu and develop a program for adults white through green. I started judo with usja and love it. Save judo ❤

Judo is based on self development, care for others and respect. Therefore, if it’s not becoming popular on social media then I contend that the problem is clearly not with judo, it’s with social media.

Funny, This is basically what I do except I'm bigger than almost everyone. Also, the audio is terrible again, and while I assumed that it was just background noise that got captured and couldn't be removed, the nice transition at the end may mean your editing insisted on music over usefulness again? Please stop with the music if that's the case.

Good to train a martial art to master the craft of that martial art. You don’t always have to ask “how well would this work in the streets?” You could ask how well would this work for me or how well would this work against similar martial arts. Or against the same practicioner of said martial art.

it’s a new Shintaro, now with hat! I want my kids to do judo. I’m a shinkyokushin karate instructor, student and parent. I want my two younger girls to do judo as i feel it will give them more in terms of competition and, from my perspective, striking is a relatively simple process to teach and learn, grappling, that’s a totally different style.

Have you or can you post a few full classes that you run? Just a few genral weekly classes? Real casual like? I've been to classes that are 30 minutes general warm up(running, pushups, star jumps), 20 minutes ukemi then 30 uchikomi, 10 techniques, 10 cooldown. I think there needs to be more content out there that shows the alternatives. Its hard to change people's minds. You try talking to the coaches and they're convinced their method makes champions and their evidence is one guy who is just a natural. Just the structure of a few whole casual classes would be great.

I've been both a judo kid and a judo dad. My experience as the former informed how I behaved as the latter. In terms of judo advancement, I surpassed my father, but neither of my kids were serious enough about judo to do it for more then a few years: when they found other sports they enjoyed more, they pursued those instead. Do I wish they hit the dojo regularly? Of course. But I'm glad I could put my ego aside and let them do what THEY loved.

I got a black belt in Judo as a kid in Hawaii and many years later worked as a bouncer, after being a folk style coach a boxer add a mixed martial arts competitor I can easily say that old school Judo is the very best style for the Public Safety Professional because it teaches you to win the takedown without hurting your opponants
