I have a mk5 1.9 tdi. Has a hard start and when it starts it blows lots of white smoke smelling really rich. Fuel consumption is extremely poor. Bad throttle response and poor power. Could it be that the injector or injetors are stuck open? Or? My car has 250K kilometers which is about 155 000 miles. I dont know alot about these engines and their issues I'm not a mechanic

Hello, thx for the video, well explained. I think I have the same problem, only it's not that worse. Sometimes my engine cranks for some seconds but it eventually starts, sometimes it starts right away with no problem, sometimes it starts and I get yellow spring with engine problem, visit workshop or steering column lock defective and it turns off immediately, but 2nd time it starts. Lately it starts but shuts down right after, but if I clear the codes with an obd reader it starts and run with no problem. The faults I'm getting are electronic steering column lock control module j764, electronic steering column lock check sum error and steering column lock enabling for electronic ignition lock. Could it be some bad wiring since sometimes it runs with no problem and sometimes it gives this errors but still runs?

Could be a wiring issue indeed... But this inernal problem can look like a wiring issue when it is not... Checlk live data al well, see if there is anything there that helps you in the righnt direction...

Hi, do you know where the sensor (Probably a potentiometer) is located exactly? If the sensor is in the actuator part of the turbo loosing the bracket and moving the whole actuator might not be correct...what you think? Hovever since you did this and the voltage chages it must be correct the way you are doing it. Have you taken the actuator apart?
@LMAutoRepairs3 күн бұрын
Hi The sensor is part of the actuator... Moving the actuator moves the point the sensor starts measuring, since you move the sensor but the lever is at the stop point... In this instance I have not opened the sensor, but I have a video where I did opened it, but for different reasons... 👍👍👍

Mr. LM, I am interested in learning more about using the engine scanner and learning how to interpret auto wiring diagrams for repairs. Where do I start with little or no experience in acquiring this knowledge. I am very appreciative to finding your channel and want to maximize everything correctly that you teach. Thank you. Please advise.

@LMAutoRepairs5 күн бұрын
Hi Not sure what else that relay powers up without checking diagrams... Best way, is, check diagrams and see what or where the powers and grounds for the tcu comes from... CAN line are the next thing to check, if the powers and grounds are ok at the TCU multiplug... 👍👍👍

Good to see a swift resolution through the dealership. They must have been able to claim the labor on their parts warranty. The dealership way can go very wrong sometimes... New modules are not always the best answer. I knew a Merc Dealer Tech and he said there were some real nighmares when the new modules required other modules to be updated on the car orthe latest diagnostics to code them. It only takes one bug in a the diagnostics or in a module and they could be stuck for many weeks.

What you're referring to as Mercedes is only a franchised dealer who paid to put a sign outside their door. Mercedes makes cars, it doesn't repair them. The radio module would have been sent to an electronics repairer. Some are better than others.
@LMAutoRepairs5 күн бұрын
I know that... Regardless of that, should have been tested before sent back to mercedes to be sold... 👍👍👍

good morning Luis did merc put his original module back in just a thought they had nothing to lose to give your repair a go
@LMAutoRepairs5 күн бұрын
No.. they actually installed a new module... I initially trusted what they told the owner, and some time later, and I mean like a year later, (video for it as well...), the car came back for a completely different issue... and guess what..., I checked, and the module had no mark...😋 So, they definitely had to replace it.

It's ridiculous how often this is happening nowadays. From modules to sensors, everything. Just love it when someone fetches a car that has aftermarket sensors everywhere and they get upset when you want to put OEM sensors back on it. Then one of the OEM sensors isn't right. Car is cutting out or doing strange things with no fault codes. Live data looks ok, nothing obvious. Except soot content and differential pressure both at zero. Then they eventually tell you it's had a DPF delete. Map it back to standard and you then get different live data and codes, find out the root cause was one of the original sensors gone bad and the aftermarket replacement was working but giving the wrong values, and then the OEM sensor you actually bought was bad as well. Joyous. Strangely enough that was a German car as well 😜
