You don't worry about customers tripping on mic cords? Seems a liability. I run 4 wireless to avoid disaster
@briansredd
@briansredd 7 сағат бұрын
Nah, I had it all real tight set up wise & had the mic on a stand. I can't control everything people do (like taking the mic off a stand). Wireless mics are a great idea, though. Like I said, I'm no KJ & don't aspire to be one. This was just a last minute emergency set up to help out the bar that was in a jam.

Now that I'm thinking about it, don't you worry about people dropping, throwing or walking away with your wireless mics?

@briansredd lol no, never had an issue. I explain the rules, have fun, no making fun of anyone and no mic drops. Once the song ends we both know we are never so unaware that a mic would disappear. Phenix mics are $50 to replace but never had to.....yet

When you give any credence to the verbal vomit of others with ZERO evidence of their experience, talent, skills or ethics...you are the problem. Whenever I hear "You not a real dj..." my ears go off line. P.S. In the "old days' there were just as many opinions and a-holes with them as there is today...and today many have podcasts, opinion videos...etc.

What type of laptop or MacBook a DJ uses matters. I've made the mistake of buying one below specs and I am sure many other DJs have too. I thought I was getting top of the line stuff when I spent $800 on a Laptop but, it was more like a $800 headache. Then everyone sees the sales at Best Buy to get a $300 something laptop and that's a mistake to buy. Virtual DJ is probably what you are talking about. Every DJ has their preference. I bought Serato with everything inluclude at 50% on Black Friday one time. Most DJs love it. It's a preference. Most DJs don't want to spend the money on Virtual DJ. Poor Phil just recently pleaded for Virtual DJ to change their name because it didn't sound professional. He will get a lot of backlash from that. I am surprised he didn't ask Serato to change their name. If you look up what Google picks up in the search that Serato is slang for and believe the definition you then you might get a laugh.

*How to judge a good set list is by seeing how people dance generally there is a few groupings of songs that work when played at the right time and this was that example now mixing and swapping them in between other sets make a very dynamic and solid uniform set so you did great here man i look up to you as i am a DJ with a chronic illness and have been watching you since 2016 keep up the great work*

Solid set. Something that young DJ’s don’t understand is that yes the dance floor needs to be rocking but if the bar isn’t ticking over then the venue doesn’t see it as a successful night. Very well done, you know your stuff!

Here's my theory: DJ gear snobbery is basically a man thing. An insecure man thing. Keep up the good work spreading the true word about what it all should be about, Brian. If what I use & what I do makes my customers happy then that's good enough for me.

In most systems and with most types of dance music you will find that the bass uses up to 80% of the power output of the amps. So by adding a sub to the Evolve you are taking some of the load off of the Evove amp. This allows for that power to go to the Evolve and keeps you from coming close to or actually clipping the amp. I found that when I just used two Evolves, I was clipping at every event once things got loud. This was especially true if I increased the bass knob on my mixer. Often the clipping wasn't that obvious to my ears but it was there. So when I added the sub the clip light no longer flashed. I could add a little more bass at my mixer and the overall sound was cleaner and louder. I also got punchier bass. The downside is that i am now carrying a sub again.

Hello Brian, thank you for all that you do! Ok here’s my question, how do you deal with the pay difference between clubs and weddings? Clubs here in my area pay about $250 to $300 for the evening and weddings at average $1800 or more. I stopped doing bars/clubs because of the drastic change in pay. Just doing weddings now. And oh yes! I’d love to see your playlists! Thank you.
@briansredd
@briansredd 2 күн бұрын
Good question! Here, I average between $300 - $600. Special Event pricing has been $800-$1000. Not everyone gets that & there's plenty of those $200-$250 venues out there as well. I justify it (Vs Weddings) because there's a LOT less time, prep & equipment involved + it's not a 1-off event. When I do a wedding, I'm in prep all week, then get up early & end up working a 12 hour day with like $10K worth of stuff to prep, set up & break down. Then, the job is over & I get to chase the next wedding client. When I do a bar or club, I have time to do whatever I want all week & only start thinking about the gig when it's time to get cleaned up & drive there. I plug into the house system with a mixer / controller & a laptop & go. Total gear investment is like $3K maybe & takes minutes to load in & set up. Typically bar & club gigs are weekly, so after the first one, you know what you are in for + you know you have a job next week. It's less stress & there's no need to constantly chase work or do marketing, no multiple meetings per gig, no freaking out of clients, there's lots of benefits IMO. The real big difference between bars / clubs & weddings is a wedding are an emotional theatrical thing where you get to direct multiple people & create this memory. Bars & Clubs are about making the venue money, period. When you know how to make them money, your fee goes up. I'm at the point in my career where I prefer this to weddings.

It was super strange! Hotels did well & whoever was the "official" AV company of the convention did well. They let bars stay open until 4 AM (usually 2 AM) but they were empty. Big disappointment for the hospitality industry, especially those effected by the chaos of the Safety Zone downtown.

@@briansredd very interesting to hear that..im only 45min north of you so i heard about the convention almost everyday on the news.they always tout how much money it brings to a city..Its just a different clientele than say,a packer game.. stay open till 4am but nobody shows up!then like you said all the hoops a place has to probably go though and eve loose business because you are located closer to the convention..
@briansredd
@briansredd 2 күн бұрын
@@rooster5755 It's so strange. The RNC had 50,000 attendees. This convention right now is Northwestern Mutual Life with 12,000 attendees & I'll be working the next two nights & that's with official activities at the Summerfest grounds going until 10 PM nightly. Bars, restaurants & event spaces started seeing the writing on the wall with the RNC months ago with no reservations, etc. Some places were smart & just closed for the week. Others hoped for last minute something that never happened. It probably would have been a lot different if the entire party wasn't behind a single candidate. The DNC in Chicago, I'm betting will be WILD. They historically spend more money anyway & as of yesterday, there will be fresh blood well under 80 years old fueling it. Young people tend to party a little more.
