I absolutely loved Tom's explanation of that scene! Made sense to me - it could be our Smallville, but he played it as a more mature, grown up version of Clark than what he played on the series. Which makes sense, since this was Lois and Clark in the future, years after the series ended, finally married and even have kids too. It was just one scene, so there wasn't the time or need to explain every little thing...but it made sense to me, loved it!

If you notice during that scene clark is wearing the watch jonathan left him. But the face of the watch is now blue. I always thought that face was replaced with blue kryptonite (which on earth-167) neutralized Clark's powers whenever he was in close proximity.
