Brilliant yet practical work. Thank you for sharing your findings! Statistical portfolio diversification can be accomplished with only 13-15 individual holdings....although outside of the statistical measure of diversification, practically-speaking, there are so many vectors to diversify along (domestic vs intl, market cap size, sector, industry, etc) that even 50 holdings can't possibly fully diversify nevertheless, I'm thinking, just looking at the trends on the focus/rebalancing frequency slide, that there may be some meaningful incremental gains by trimming the monthly rebalancing amongst just 13-15 stocks....assuming of course they're not all clones of one another like just semiconductor stocks.

Please, please, AAII, put section titles and markers in your videos. Many of us often want to jump to various sections and do not need to sit through the entire video. Without the titles and markers I often just skip watching the video.

A bit too lengthy view at 60+ minutes. More would "tune-in and listen", if a shorter presentation is used.

Not sure if this makes sense.......over a year ago decided I need professional help....met with Fidelity, ?Schwab and others.... had read Winning the Losers Game and Investing at Level 3.......chose local advisor as impressed with his small staff and use of computers....cautioned him skittish about bonds....six months, seeing my account had dropped 32 %, I cashed out and ceased having advisor. Have only invested in I-bond and bank CDs at 3.55%. Not sure how learning how can be introduced to various ways to invest when the market continues to drop. Peace of mind is important to me. Gary

Thanks for the presentation, I've been a user for many years and learned new tricks while watching the webinar. One comment, when screening for dividend stocks, the dataset does not differentiate between special dividends and regular scheduled dividends, so dividend growth, yield, etc. are not always accurate and you have to take more time to weed out the actual dividend payments.

Market timing: a recipe for sub-market returns. The only people who consistently make money from this sort of stuff are those who sell it to others.

Looks like you cherry picked the timeframe. What mutual fund can we use?
@johnveiga3324
@johnveiga3324 Жыл бұрын
I disagree with your assertion that Rob cherry-picked the timeframe. There was only one slide where Rob showed the concept of selling at the 50 MA. He had many other slides that showed the backtest results of the 50MA. There is no cherry picking involved when you backtest over 20 years.

As far as the mutual fund to use, Rob has no incentive to share that information with all of us. We are on our own to determine that or to hire him as an advisor. It's a fairly easy thing to figure out if you are willing to put in the effort. It very significant that he shared that information with us. I confirmed that ETFs JNK and HYG had a negative Sharp ratio, a very poor Information ratio, and an less than stellar upside capture ratio when i compared it to other mutual funds in the same HIgh Yield category.

I liked the discussion. I have a question or comment. Since a person who has a traditional IRA must take the withdrawal, do studies show the it makes a big difference when you take it? I would think that keeping the money in the account would allow the overall portfolio to appreciate. Kind of like a savings account. The longer you keep the money in the account the more interest it accrues. I am really glad that he validated my statement that yes you must take it out but you do not have to spend it. You could put it into a non taxable fund. That way the taxes would be less. You could donate it to a charity as well to reduce your taxes if you want to. A financial consultant that can advise you on making these distributions tax deductible would be an important point to avoid legal ramifications.

Amazing how even when trying to do everything right, the tool one uses for planning might provide assumptions which could alter future success.

Exactly, you're 100 percent right, Jeff. Extremely important to choose the right one and make sure it actually fits your individual needs and goals before using. Great presentation. Thanks How do you screen for the stocks that combines the best of value and growth, or do you screen for them separately and invest 50% in each strategy?
