I never noticed before just how much Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" was inspired by this piece.

Beautiful sound! Love the half notes, keeping the cymbals lightly in contact just a bit longer to make the sound both smoother and bigger!

Too fast. Pull it back a bit & hear the Music & not show-off to keep (for you) a poorly paying job.

One of the best days at uni, I heard all five piano concertos performed in a single day at the royal northern college of music in Manchester. Looking back, I can’t almost believe they did it!

The beginning isn't difficult because everyone is full of energy. The Sacrificial Dance is the hardest because everyone is tired and tangled.

I still believe in your eyes I just don't care what you've done in your life Baby, I'll always be here by your side Don't leave me waiting too long, please, come by I still believe in your eyes There is no choice, I belong to your life Because I, I live to love you someday You'll be my baby and we'll fly away And I'll fly with you I'll fly with you I'll fly with you

Mahler is the Godfather of the epic symphony. Incidentally, this passage is not actually from the 2nd movement but is from part two of the first movement.

What do you mean? This is from the second movement, I double checked after reading your comment and found this part close to the end of the second movement.

I've so long enjoyed this composition, the first time I heard the sumptious climax to this movement was under Maazel's London label symphony boxset, later Blomstedt's SFSO boxset.
