Interesting 360-degree panning shot from about 1:05 to 1:47. This is one of the earliest examples, and couldn’t have been easy to film.

My Mum, who loved Ethel (we had the original RCA 45 of Tico Tico in our Zenith Cabinet 'Hi-Fi' in our living room when I was a kid), always said that the organist that played at my parents' wedding could play jazz organ like this.

I am SO confused. This was Dinicu's graduation piece for his violin conservatory degree. Other than some harsher glissandi characrteristic to Romanian fiddles, there is little difference from the version Heifetz made popular under his name. The virtuoso upbow / downbow staccati, the taraf-like 4-note rythm, the bow flying on the violin -- those were already in this work. What was Heifetz' contribution? Dinicu was a Roma, and he faced a mountain of hardship getting any recognition. I love this piece, and I'm grateful for the recognition that Heifetz gave it. But it still grinds me a bit to see the belief that Heifetz gave it the violin virtuosity when it had it all along...

Ce Roma?!? Poate a fost la origine țigan care a fost educat și românește așa a rezultat și această piesă

I see why Heifetz wrote his own arrangement. The version you're listening to here is more in line with the Romanian 'hora dance,' that Dinicu fashioned it after, but it's hardly suitable for a showpiece.
