Is there any buildup of soot in the ovens roof? Im experiencing a lot of buildup in my Ooni Karu 12g with gas attachment. Looking for a different oven for this reason.

you will get some buildup with any of the gas ovens I think. it has not been a problem, but I only use it once and a while. I think you could just brush it with a bristle brush and vacuum the inside?

Nice cook, Thanks for sharing. We cook half chickens in IBCA competitions in Texas, it is not easy to cook a half bird perfectly. You nailed this, I like the hot method too. I hope you let your 4 legged " assistants" have a taste!! Devin Thomas Mutts & Butts BBQ , Prosper Texas

Why is the thermometer mounted on the lid and not side of the barrel like the competitors barrel grill?
@Searedandsmoked
@Searedandsmoked 9 күн бұрын
You will get similar readings either way, as I did do some testing on this. But I also did not want to drill into the side of the barrel... figured a lid would be easier to replace if needed.

I always do smoked Salmon man, but I bought some Salmon fillets just to grill some today. I'm in the middle of a direct grilling series on the channel so I want to go straight direct with them the whole time. I love that you went flesh side down first AND got great grill marks. I've seen people say not to grill the flesh side a ALL, and I've seen at least one other channel say you won't get grill marks on the flesh side. LIES, lol! Great cook man, it gets no easier than this.

back then, about $500 probably. I little more now. If you cover it when not in use, you can use pine instead of cedar, which will save you quite a bit... but I would build out of cedar if you have the money

I really like this. I might try to make it for my WSM smoker since right now I have no worksurfaces when I am grilling/smoking. I need a removable middle shelf it can sit on since the WSM can double as a regular kettle grill or a bullet smoker. No one has plans for WSM from my googling. Only the eggs.
@Searedandsmoked
@Searedandsmoked Ай бұрын
For the WSM, I would probably do something similar to this, except remove the shelf in the middle, and add some granite below or line everything in the center with aluminum / steel for fire protection.

For the weber gas grills, I usually pre heat for about 30 minutes to make sure its nice and hot. If it does not get that high, still give it a try after you know its reached close to max temperature.

I bought a Typhur meat probe set. This was my first experience with wireless probes. I just did not like the entanglements of the wires and I wanted wifi connectivity. I got a unit that felt very premium with the base station. I charged it up and was never alerted as to when the charge was done. My charge light just kept blinking overnight. My screen appearance looked nothing like the screens for the Typhur I had seen on the KZfaq channels. I emailed a video as to what the unit was doing to Typhur and they said the software had a bug and they did not know when or if they could push a firmware update to me. I returned it to Amazon and got another Typhur. The second unit had a different set of bugs and just gave up on it and sent it back to Amazon. I think The Typhur unit is a quality piece overall, its just that the software is not fully baked. I wanted the wifi capability so I went back with the wires and got the Inkbird IBBQ-4T which has wifi capability. I really wanted the wireless unit but thought about it and the heat on the probe batteries can not be good for longevity. I honestly wonder what the lifespan is on all these wireless probes. I may go back to a wireless unit and I think Typhur will be a great unit to have once the software bugs are ironed out.

Very nicely done. All of those things should come standard with the barrel! For those who don't understand, this is just a barrel; barrels are everywhere and they can be acquired for free!!! I own a farm and I could walk around the yard and see no less than 25 steel 55-gallon and 30-gallon barrels! As of today (6-16-2024), the 18.5" barrel is priced at: $399.99! $399.99 for a barrel! Again, the fact that these things were not included with the purchase and already installed is ridiculous! It's laughable! To make it even worse, the 22.5" is currently (6-16-2024) priced at: $499.99 and it does not come with any of these features either! A Weber 18" grill grate is currently (6-16-2024) priced at: $29.99 (Ace Hardware) and it's HINGED which would allow a person to drop more charcoal into the bottom without removing the entire grill rack to make such a simple move!!! Again, these things are laughable! These "barrels" are priced at least 60% too high!

This video is really well made- you're the only reviewer/Kettle Pizza chef that I've seen who actually talks about the timing for cooking- i.e. turning the pizza every minute to 90 secs, bubbling indicating that it's close to done, rough estimate of 3-4 mins/pizza at 650-700F. You have great recommendations for dough, building the heat source is well discussed, very comprehensive. The best out of about five videos that I've watched, thank you!
