I was 6 years old, and can still remember the shows,went to everyone right up to them closing,even went to the charity ball the year there was no airshow and Lorraine Kelly was there and nick nairn was the chef. So many different types off aircraft that sadly all gone now Those were the days

Fantastic film!! Back in 1958 3 teenagers from Aberdeen entered the Lossiemouth by sneaking under a fence at the north end,near the golf course. The main attraction was a "graveyard" of old RNAS aircraft.We recognised about 10 different types..Sea Vampires,Seafires,Sturgeons,Fireflies...can't remember them all.Then 2 Blue Land Rovers came from nowhere and with the help of dogs,they rounded us up.Their main concern was how we'd entered,so we showed them,then we were given a stern warning and were driven to the Main Gates.Glorious memories.

We used to travel over from RAF Kinloss which had Shackletons based there that our fathers flew in.

I was there as an ATC cadet on an Annual Camp, I was lucky enough to be sat in the control tower watching all the aircraft coming in for the display. I particularly remember the Constellation as it was ancient even back then. In the preceeding days a Starfighter had folded an undercarriage leg on landing and slid to an undignified stop. A mate of mine ( a Cadet) was sat in the runway control caravan at the time, ran with a fire extinguisher and beat the crash crew to the scene. He caught an almighty bollocking from the Sergeant in charge of the fire team but eventually went home clutching a "Well Done" certificate.

I was there as a member of the 20TFW F-111E team. Bomb-Nav.

When Britain still had an air force !!

In a time when we had a 'Force'!! Look at all those frames! 🙂

After completing my 3 years of training, I became an Aircraft Engineering Technician & was posted onto 23 (Red Eagle) Squadron ( You don't see many of them until near the end of the film - They are the ones with the vertical Blue & Red bars, either side of the nose roundel ) @ Leuchars in mid September 1967.Just as they were converting from Mk.3s ( small ventral tank) to interim 6s (large ventral tank), then eventually on to full mk.6s with an arrestor hook. Like all "newbies" I started off doing 1st line sevicing ( daily inspection @ beginning & end of day & turn rounds between flights.) After I got up to speed there, I was "promoted" to 2nd line/hangar servicing. That's when life got all rather serious as the "superuior idiot" who designed them, knowingly didn't give a damn about lack of accessibility - & while he got chewed out @ the time, refused to solve the problem. Whereas, our view was whoever designed it should have had to work on them '@ hangar level, for ' least a year, just to see how bad it REALLY was (At my time 60 man hours servicing for every ONE flying hours - Eventually it got so bad that became a ratio of 90:1 ! ). - There's no denying it was all VERY character building ! But even with playing locally arranged "war games" every Friday, "Tacevals" - 3 day long TACTICAL EVALUATION exercise, about 3 times a year & more than my fair share of real Q.R.A. (Quick Reaction Alert ) see offs, armed with live missiles, to intercept Russian reconnaisance bombers "somewhere over the Faroes gap" Certainly the intensity of it all is still something I'll always remember with fond memories. Certainly # 23 was the best ever posting I got ! :) After that I was posted to #56 Sqdn @ Akrotiri in Cyprus. The sunshine & sea, along with a slight boost in pay for "Local Overseas Allowance was good, but the squadron suffered from a serious morale problem as the C.O. was after "glory & promotion", @ everybody else's expense. Though towards the end they started to recognise that & I got a "jolly" up in the " T bird" (Mk5 trainer) & a chance to earn my certificate for going "10 ton" - 1,000 mph ! :) - helped a bit to make up for the rest of it !

The kit on display then was alot more diverse than it is now.

The Swiss Airforce used Vampires. Flying from Gatwick to Basel got speaking to an Ex Swiss 🇨🇭Airforce Pilot. Amazing video those were the days when the Airwing was huge and varied

I was stationed at Leeming 1956-59 with Javelin 228 OCU. Hairy scary aircraft were the Javs . ‘Night flying Blues’ on a dark dreary cold airfield with RAF Fire Service. Great memories.

That brings back Memories. I was on 763Sqn (Hunters). I must have been there at the Time the Films were made. I later changed to the RAF and was there for 8 Years on 8Sqn Shackletons.

The days when they RAF had interesting aircraft

Nothing can beat the low pass just below the speed of sound and then the pull up to infinity (well almost!). You heard nothing then the roar of two RR Avons in full reheat. Tremendous ... !!!

Terrific video of a legendary aircraft. The Tri-Colour or French flag on the vertical stabiliser always surprises me. The RAAF here in Australia continued the tradition with the Dassault Mirage III but seemed to drop it from the F/A-18 Hornet, Super Hornet and F-35 Lightning. Our Defence Ministry has had very poor relations with the French Government over the last couple of decades with a reneging on a new Dassault jet fighter deal and contract termination with a submarine supply.

I would have been 5, in fact just weeks away from my 6th birthday when that was filmed and 11 years later would attend my first airshow at RAF Leuchars. Great video👍🏻

Great collection of images. Spent some time at Lossie, and I think I flew in at least one of the aircraft shown. Even got an F4 from Woodbridge that got me started down this road :-)

Nice to see the Grumman S2F Tracker in which my father flew and the Sikorsky helicopters of the Royal Dutch Navy.

Before my time, but great footage and a reminder that in the 1960's the FAA was more powerful than most air forces.

I went to that air display in the back of a Harrier Tbird! The aircrew wanted somebody to do the flight servicing and see off the GR3 for the display and I got the job. I remember thinking it was the only time I'd seen an aircraft out and observed its entire sortie! Sadly I don't seem to feature in the film, but thanks for the memories

Great video. Brings back lots of memories. My father was in the RAF from 1937 to 1972 so I was brought up in and around RAF camps in the fifties and sixties when all those aircraft were around. Forget how many airshows I attended. My mother served in the RAF during the war and brother in the seventies and eighties. All gone now. I have a daughter currently serving in the Royal Australian Air Force to carry on the family tradition. Thanks for sharing the video.

I was at Culdrose for a couple of years holidays '66 to '68, but I was a Lossie rating really! Armourer and SAR Aircrewman with Jamie Bauld and Co. Happy days mostly...

I was there in 69 ...at Lossie High School the class, in primary 5, was split into 4 groups named after FAA aircraft ...I was in the Buccaneer's. Mrs Britten was the teacher and her husband worked on the base.
