You dang right. I have shot more barbedwire than anybody on the planet. Only successful hit I ever had through a fence was a Cow Elk in Colorado about 10 years back.

Love your channel. I’ve had FHF, kuiu, marsupial, FHF again, stone glacier bino harnesses and after selling all but my marsupial I just re-bought the kuiu harness. Best harness going I think. No magnets for the win.

I loved to shoot wood until I had one break on release. It was pretty painful. Luckily it didn't stick in my left forearm but, It left one heck of a bruise and knot. I immediately went back to aluminum although I couldn't shoot for a couple of days. That was probably 25 years ago.

You know when my bowhunting life really got easy? When I realized I didn't need binos. Now I might carry then on an Elk Hunt depends. Once I have a plan of attack on Elk, usually not.

Man you do flatten out on a close shot. You are right though it can be a tuff shot. Definitely a good idea to practice it.

@EthanPageHunter Yeah, not saying it is bad advice either. The proof is in the target. With longer bows it is almost a must. I shoot very short bows. They might be a little harder to shoot accurately but, in a hunting situation they are easier to me.

@@unknown-archer yes it’s a very tricky shot. Less vitals, scapula is right there too. I know some who won’t take this shot. For good reason.

Season is close. I have never really noticed. Much of a change regardless of terrain. I think it just depends on the perception of space.

Not only does all the hunting stuff cost a bunch, it’s a hassle to get used to using and dangerous as well. At 52 years old, I’ll do a ladder stand or a nice tree stand but not a saddle, climber or hanger………..it’s gonna be fixed to the tree with giant nails. I know guys who have fallen, it sucks and takes a long time to heal.

Sweet set up!! My arrows are similar. I run 29” tamarack/western larch shafts 65/70, 5” shield cut feathers, 75 grn woody weights with Zwickey no mercys and Zwickey Eskimos. Can’t wait for the season to open.

That's a solid setup imo. I've been making and hunting with my own wooden arrows for a couple years now and they get the job done. I use a 6", 2 or 4 fletch on mine, half moon cut. I found the rounder shape is quieter than the shield. Try experimenting with 2 fletch... you might be surprised. I find they are just as accurate to 15 yards if well tuned as 3 or 4 fletch, but they are waaaay faster. Nice work, good hunting!

@@EthanPageHunter Scott Winters did a vid on it a while back. There are also videos on Comanche style arrows which are 2 fletch. Frankly, I was surprised how good they are but I find they deflect more on high wind days and long shots. But I don't take those shots in a hunting situation, so...

@@awesomepumashoes deer have a sense of smell that is hundreds of times better than ours. They live their life around smell and it’s how they communicate. If deer are down wind of you they will small you no matter what. So always hunt with the wind in your face blowing from the animals toward you and you’re golden.

Thanks. You hit that on the head. Chasing early elk above tree line early season before rut begins is a challenge to even draw back the bow after a leg/lung burning climb.
