Just watched, had so many laugh out loud moments. Some of its endless zany and videogame-esque moments brought parts of it down for me, but the joy of seeing silent film comedy make it's near 100 year return is very much welcomed.

You know that current Hollywood films have reached bottom when the only apt comparison you can make to this film is the OW MY BALLS! sequence from IDIOCRACY (2006). One of the writers of IDIOCRACY, later said that they were writing an extreme satire of life in the future and never expected it to become a documentary. Well … here we are!

I am a Non Bengali North Indian but ever since have learnt to speak and understand the language have become an instant Ray fan and Jalsaghar is an indispensable watch! More in love with the Music in it and to know that the sentiments of the Indian history and times reflected in the movie prove educative beyond borders makes me want to register my loyal appreciation for the genius that the subcontinent produced in film making!! Shatranj ke Khiladi (Chess Players) yet another masterpiece!

My 36 yr old friend asked me to go to Deadpool a week ago and he bought the tickets yesterday for me and someone else, and today I didn't go, because I really didn't feel rested enough to watch a 2hr superhero movie. I accepted when he asked me just because he went to a concert with me a few weeks ago. I'll just give him the money for the ticket. I'd rather stay home and stare at the ceiling than watch that sh#t. Out of all the movies, he asks me to go to this, come on...

Did Hugh Jackman really need money that bad? Surely a guy as gifted as him, and with such a high stature as him can work with A list directors again like he used to? And develop his own projects

I think you don’t like Deadpool and what he brings. A Deadpool movie is 4th wall-breaking, self-deprecating, self-aware, cameo-filled, bloody superhero movie. But if you don’t want those things, it doesn’t matter what the writers do. You’ll still hate it. From reading and watching your reviews, I feel you have a very rigid view of what you consider a good movie is, but I still respect your opinion. Your ability to have watched so many movies makes me think you enjoy more movies than you give off.

I think the "what makes this movie great?" series, at 200 videos and growing, is sufficient evidence to counter this. You may be noticing that I don't love movies that have a lot of multinational corporate promotions in them -- Barbie, the Nike shoe movie, most of the Marvels, etc. And still, I really love Lego Batman, so there are always exception to my own preferences.

This movie would've excited me in 2018 or 2019 but I'm over it and just burned out on the big franchise movies. It looks like a gimmick instead of a real movie.

Been on comic book movie fatigue since Endgame. Also as I get older they are less appealing. I want fresh narratives and breaking of conventions. This stuff is like tv episode of the week cartoon storytelling. There's no question scriptwriting has been overall poor in the modern era. When I watch something like Kurosawa or Maltese Falcon and then watch a modern film the divide is so obvious. Even the early 2000s had better scripts. I saw In thr Bedroom recently and it blew me away (Tom Wilkinson).

Agreed, Hollywood in the 2010s/2020s keep making the same s@it and I do put blame on the general public because so many original movies like Horizon bomb in theaters. I just don't care about these franchise movies anymore and I'm really burned out on the comic book movie thing.

@@EddieHenderson92 yup Terminator is a good example too. First sequel amazing, third film pretty good and then diminishg results continue until Dark Fate which destroyed whatever narrative foundation had been built from the first three films. So it went beyond bad writing and filmmaking and actually attacked the sanctity of the original scripts. Wtf lol

Yeah this film was lower middling for me. The opening was a fun watch and there were a few good jokes (non puerile) around but most of the fight scenes were a mess of movement, poorly shot and the last act, a predictable slog. Plus the cameos were few and mostly lacking. This film did not need to be 2hrs long as well. This is a small bump up for marvel quality wise but the descent continues

Generally agreed with you, although I found parts of it to be a bit more fun than you did. I thought the first 20-30 minutes focused on joking around was really enjoyable. However, once they got into the plot of the 2nd act it was so boring and predictable.

I'm of the generation that grew up watching science-fiction movies, mostly B-movies, of the 1950s at the local theatre. I'm thankful that I've hung around long enough to enjoy movies like Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049. I appreciate your reservations about BR2049 and I too would love to see a third movie in the series.

I've only watched Heathers and Something Wild. I don't do horror, sports or testosterone movies. No criticism, just me. Don't know why I've never watched Pretty In Pink, Molly Ringwald period when she was at the top of her game. IK would include pretty much every Anthony Michael Hall movie, with a special call-out to Weird Science.
