U would’ve thought with 2 comedy giants this would’ve been funnier. Cosby and Jerry had NO chemistry. Cosby was trying to (and I emphasize trying) to outdo Jerry Lewis. So what u have is an awkward clip of 2 legends and didn’t learn a damn thing bout the book!

The early days of the American celebrity culture is cynically but accurately depicted by Scorsese. Little did they know that 4 decades later a reality TV star would be elected president because of celebrity culture.

Incredible film! This, along with Hi, Mom!, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and GoodFellas (duh!). Saw Mean Streats, but that was long ago and I don't recall. anyway, Robert De Niro is a national treasure!!! And for that reason, I find his TDS all the more tragic. End of the day, he's just one more human manipulated by mainstream media. The disintegration of critical thinking is SAD, and it is too widespread.

Does anyone else find it funny that Jerry sings two minstrel songs after Cosby dissed the book that he was there to promote?

Jerry should have never said..." *𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐒 𝐌𝐘 #𝟏 𝐒𝐎𝐍* " you know how his other sons must feel? Horrible He has (6) sons including " _Gary_ " I have (2) sons and I love them both equal! They both are my #1's😅

I think the folks at Disney really knew who he was. Come on his name is *Gary LEWIS* , he talks and looks just like his dad did back in the early days. But I'm sure he got the job not by being " *Jerry Lewis's* " son, NO, he got the job because of his talent! Because of the entire groups talent. And they had some great songwriters 😱😱😁😁

Aside from Sinatra appearing on this, it was a train wreck. There’s big talent in house here with Tony and Jerry and it wasn’t their fault either. It just seemed forced and disingenuous and it was a disappointing period in the transition of entertainment. The older mantra of entertainers was starting to see their hey day fade away from the main stream of entertainment even though they were still very much alive and loved and excellent at what they did. What was funny 5 or 10 years earlier just wasn’t funny or working anymore. It’s kinda hard to watch these types of things really.

Gary Lewis and the Playboys are still my Fountain of Youth. Loved listening to his bands 45's and LP's in 1968 on my sisters record player. It just made me excited and a 1960's music lover even still to this day at age 62.

Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, so many other legends. All from the same generation. Incredible. Re Frank, I'm grateful for his music, but what I'm most grateful for is him helping Dean and Jerry take the first step toward reconciling.

Noted elsewhere in the comments, but bizarrely not in the video description ... this was a 5-episode try-out which aired only on WNEW-TV in New York City for a production company seeking a replacement for Alan Thicke's syndicated late night talk show Thicke Of The Night, which disastrously attempted to compete against The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. Thicke's show was cancelled in June 1984 after one season. Based on Lewis' "try-out" his show was not picked up for production and it's glaringly obvious why. He was terrible!

I have a theory. I think Mr. Lewis was cashing in on the attention he got from playing a talk show host in “The King of Comedy”. He’s NOT a talk show host. He’s a comedic genius who belongs in the movies.

Jerry lewis was funny when he was younger, but his act got creepy as he got older. Sadly much like Emo Phillips. Certain characters just do not age well. Dean Martin's character never got old. Just cooler every day he aged.

In watching Gary doing interviews and learning how hard he has worked in his life, he seems like a really nice guy and not spoiled or into drugs like so many celebrities' children. I never cared for Jerry Lewis' style of comedy and it appears as though he was not good to his family. I always liked Gary's songs and am glad he was a success in his own merit.

great interview. I really liked jerry lewis. While he had nothing to do with first wife and kids of 35 yrs, I have to believe there was poison bad blood or he was treated terribly or was told to go away or something for him to be so shut off. I cant see him as a deadbeat dad. ha to be something there... that made him feel so strong on such. I pray its not just cause he was not in marriage anymore and out of blue spit them out. He was such a good hubby and father to a second marriage. Only they know the truth... but enjoyed his professional acting very much.
