One thing seemingly overlooked by many is that all of the cars are right drive. This is historicly accurate. The US was right drive for over 400 years till that scumbag Henry Ford & his like minded friends decided that they didn't like that & not only pushed for wrong side drive, but henry swore that he would never make a right drive car. That is, right up until he discovered that export market car buyers money in his bank was just as good as US money in his bank. This changeover took place from about 1909 through to about 1920.

The equivalent of today's Super Cars. Lightweight body on essentially F ! running gear, with slightly de-tuned engine.

I saw these cars on the Warner Brothers Studio Lot Tour in July 1965. All of the cars and balloons and subs and props were in a big Tent on the Tour to Showcase the Film. When we went to the Premiere later at the Pantages Theater Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Natalie Wood each drove up in the car (these) they drove in the film!!!

Be interesting to compare the "Leslie Special" with the "Thomas Flyer", the car that won the real 1908 Great Race. From the looks of some photographs, there are some strong similarities. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMyDa7x1q83PhJs.html

I've seen this movie many times and still to this day the performance of Jack Lemmon has to be one of the greatest comedy roles, with his crime duo Peter Falk. Didn't know the cars still excited, so pleased to see them in working order. 😊

Can you tell me thr true purpose of the oil can...?
@Kaputnik115 жыл бұрын
They could be used for oiling points, and oiling exposed parts of the engines I believe :)
@lewspeedwagon63305 жыл бұрын
...well, I'm curious because, I've seen on many makes of cars, mid twenties, and before, little brass priming cups... I've seen them on top of the engine, on, or above the carburetor, on the intake manifold, all for helping starting the engine, after an extended shutdown. My thought is, who could always have a cup of gas near by? ... not, many folks. Not practical to keep a can of gas in/near the car. So..., many many had permanent holders for a small "oil can". Is it possible, or practical that the can was for gas, and maybe not oil? For priming an engine.... My 1922 REO T6 sedan, has, both the holder, and a brass priming cup....
@Kaputnik115 жыл бұрын
@@lewspeedwagon6330 Hmmm well with my limited knowledge I know model ts had the same style can that was held in the engine compartment. My guess is that engineers rationalized that of you are starting a very cold motor you are near a source of gas. However you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a part that needs attention now with no service shop nearby. Just a guess I am by no means an expert. Btw I love Reo :)

Well, all 3 of you are wrong. It's to oil the rocker arms which have no internal oiling system. One drop every 100 miles.

If any car deserves to win these awards, it's this one. Every time a 2900 enters a show, it should win. I was 3rd row center at Pebble this year (2018) when they called out the Alfa as Best of Show. On the videos, you can hear me yell "YYEEAAAAHH!!!". What you can't hear on the video are the tears rolling down my cheeks.
