A mold of a face is very different from the real face without the skin tone/color/lighting. Different skin tone will totally change how a face looks even if the mold is the same.

You could make a plaster covering of each eye. One at a time and then add each one to your eye holes. Not perfect but better than just empty.

I was always told this was impossible, but yours turned out great.

Hi am I able to use this plaster mold to make other masks out of a wall compound? I just want to use this one as the mold for future Venetian masks that I make, so that they have my face shape. Is it an easily breakable rock material?

Hello Gret vid, and informative. I want to do this but i heard that plaster heats and can burn you when curing. Is there a casting type you specifically use?

So should you use any kind of Grease or anyting to prep the cast before you start molding things onto it?

As a professional effects makeup artist, I do NOT recommend using plaster directly on the skin! I don't mean to take anything away from this well-intentioned craft project, but it is important to be prepared, and SAFE. Plaster, when it sets, is a chemical reaction- not just air-drying, but a chemical reaction- that produces HEAT! Thicker plaster causes more heat. Many people have "gotten away" with using thin plaster strips agains their skin, with no ill effects. Often it's thin enough to not build up too much heat. Many people have had mild to even severe burns, because of the plaster heating up against their skin, and you can't pull it away fast enough. Different plaster strips have different properties. The ones sold in most craft stores do not have skin contact in mind; they're made for craft purposes only. If you do get plaster bandage, get it from a medical supply or makeup effects supply, so you know it's the kind that has human contact in mind. I recommend using an alginate, or skin-safe silicone, against the skin, then using plaster for the support shell. It adds a step; it adds some expense. But it is safer! This kind of DIY face-cast can sometimes work out okay, and can sometimes end in disaster. Another safety factor is to have someone else help you. Sometimes we're by ourselves, and have to do the best we can. But if you have someone who can help you, having a person outside is much easier and safer. Be careful, everyone! You only get one face; take care of it. I encourage people to be creative, do art, make things. But be safe, too!

Is it possible to fit the mask over your face or no, because you filled in the inside of the original mold, that now this mask would not fit over your face?

So I followed your directions exactly but when I went to use it the first time 4 days after it finished drying the outer coating of wood glue just peeled right off. It didn't stick to the plaster it was sort of like a latex. I don't know what the hell happened but like I said I followed your directions exactly and it didn't work any ideas?
