I have the shorter version, I used a solid fiberglass rod in the smallest section for less flex. I epoxied it into the smallest section and there is about 2 feet sticking out of the top. It works good as the smallest section is rather flexible.

Where did you get the black lever locking system in the 1:28 mark of this video. What are they officially called and where did you get them from

Good video. Mines noisy and I cant figure it out. G5rv is perfect, then I have this same Buckmaster on a 40ft tower with a pvc pipe as the mast, coax not touching the tower, 2:1 swr on most of the 7 bands and just a bunch of static sounds. If i switch over to g5rv in a tree at 30ft it all goes away. Any ideas??

Several videos on here about the window feed but you're the only one that said what the other piece of wood is for. I'd figured it out though.

Did you drill a hole near the bottom so water can get out and not freeze and bust the pipe open?

Aluminum has roughly 60% of the conductivity of copper. So that thick slab of aluminum had more conductivity than that thin ribbon of copper. You could simply connect to that, then run a decent stranded copper wire like 12 awg outside to a ground rod hammered into the earth, boom, done. Absolutely no need for loops or multiple ground points. That would only pick up additional noise and RF and create a possible ground loop issue.

I was just wondering what the mineral spirits are for? The instructions state to not use mineral spirits. Also something I noticed is that they say to clean the surface with a damp cloth, but what about the inside of each section? If the insides aren't clean then they will simply get more dust onto the surface.

Thanks for this useful video. One thought I have relates to gluing the clamps on. I purchased a very similar system from DX Engineering with basically the same clamp. Here is my concern. As the plastic inevitably ages, there is a good possibility that the clamping wings can break in which case you might want to replace with new clamps as the fiberglass is likely to be fine. The problem in this scenario is the clamps are on the pole permanently and thus removal is impossible unless one simply cut the pole down. As I think about the reason for gluing seems like this may not be absolutely necessary in terms of pole stability. I guess much depends upon one's faith in the long term integrity of the plastic clamp as it gets UV etc. Just a thought....Again thanks for taking the time to make the video.

I have just purchased the shorter version of this mast, and found this video on the Max-Gain website. GREAT job, very helpful. What would be a help to me and others in my position would be to make your calculation sheet into a pdf and distribute it. Saves us all some time, and gives us some rough numbers to begin our site planning. Can you make this available?

How old is your house? The box cover on the wall you said was in block. If so and your house is less than 12 years old that might be your Ufer ground. This is a ground that runs in the foundation inside the concrete. This will run back to your house ground so if you tie a wire to the panel ground and outside to this box and there should be a ground connection there where it will read a direct connection to the panel. You are now required a ground rod, ufer ground, and if you have copper pips water line. Kent in Willow, AK. KL7WTF

Its a lovely radio, But after using Mike's IC-7000 i was dissapointed for 3 reasons. It dosent have a channel selector, There is no roger beep, and there is no Echo feature. I think Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu are missing a trick not adopting these expensive quality features on a mid-range priced radio.

Well made Den. Just one problem though, every thing in the shack should be grounded to a single point or your gonna end up with a ground loop problem. I made an earth bus at the start too and was getting an awful feedback problem. Connected all to a single point as instructed by an elmer and the problem went away. Beautifully made though 10 out of 10
