It's a shame the world went woke, Sam Newman is too good for woke PC culture. If the world didn't go work this show would still be on.

As a long time Hawthorn supporter, watching Dermie and Jason sniping at each other….Back in the day when Australian sport had character. And I mean this for all sports 😼😼😼

Micks analysis, image if it was at colonial stadium and the roof was on? Yeah mate, I’m pretty sure that they’ve thought about that before.

It's funny when you look back at marks in 2003 a lot of those wouldn't even be paid in today's game. I even noticed the same watching late 90's footage. In today's game if the ball comes out or gets knocked out even in the dying split second, it doesn't get paid.

What a win. The bombers were arrogant, but the pies had glory on their side. How was Lockett though.

No wonder state of origin eventually died a dreadful death. When the guernsey the boys were playing for means nothing you can’t expect the fans to get behind it either. When clubs didn’t want their players in a state game for fear of injury it was clear there was no pride in it anymore. 90 was a great year for the Pies.

Re the discussion at 43:00, if you watch the 1989 SANFL Grand Final at m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7Sog7Gex53Ug3U.html you will see a Port defence that was so fast and hard and exerted such pressure that North Adelaide did not have a clean shot at goal all game. The way Port played makes me think even the Hawthorn or Geelong attacks would hardly have scored more than Northʼs 1-8 (14). At times I imagine Michael Malthouse (in 1989 coach of a Footscray team that scored the fewest points of any team since 1972) feeling a sense of horror at how Portʼs defence played - perhaps imagining Port would regularly hold AFL teams like his to a blank goal tally. Given Portʼs Grand Final performance, at times I have felt the proceedings about the admission of a South Australian team to the AFL were almost farcical.

I remember going to Windy Hill when Sheedy played Salmon out of the square with TD, Merret and Van der Haar strung across the half-forward line - perhaps only the 89 Hawks of Dunstall in front of Hall, Brereton and Buckenara can compare.

Regarding the discussion at 1:48, virtually all Australian Rules clubs were as of 1986 insolvent because the growth of distant suburbs far from public transit access to grounds, and of super-rich television corporations, meant football as it was structured had zero hope of competing with basketball in the form of the NBA and even the local NBL.
