What if every individual soul has their own reality? Like a multiverse, where every universe is based on individuals experience. We are all living a dream in our own universe's. Meaning the universe we experience is actualized for that one individual.

@@dimitriosfromgreece4227 A great man. But wrong about the nature of Reality. It is transcendent of the material. Even in his day the evidence was there from the quantum revolution. By then he was too old to change. All he could do was hammer Christianity and its undoubtedly primitive eschatology. But we're well beyond all that now. The transcendental revolution is already on its way in Science and will eventually impact our culture. And hopefully, the Biblical religions will be binned.

I have found Mr Russell to be an exemplary human being. But I do not agree with him on philosophy. I do agree that it does not provide results. It never answers any questions and it provides proof of nothing. I do agree it is a great excersize for the mind but thats where it should remain. I do not engage in philosophy as a questioning mind doesnt require it to grow. I contemplate are areas that I comprehend to exist but relegate these searches to be within what we know of facts and evidence. Ive found philosophy to be a mind trap for the ego. How many times does the philosopher think they can explain reality with no logical conclusions. How many apologists think they have evidence of imaginary friends through philosophy. It is running through rabbit holes and twisting defintions to serve the ego. Use it as an exercise like running is to physical exercise. But understand while it serves a purpose, like running exercise, it doesnt get you anywhere you are trying to go. It just goes in circles. After regular exercise then you can turn your mind onto the facts and evidence so as to produce results. Which is what Mr Russel did.

Bertrand Russell was a freethinker who was ahead of his time, and a compassionate human being. Those qualities still render him as often maligned and under-appreciated in our backward time, where lack of compassion is still a hallmark.

As a hard line materialist who appeared to dismiss any ontic reality to the realm of spirit, he had nothing to offer to the realities of suffering and injustice in worldly life. While his adherence to rationality and logic was a great strength, he seems to have overstated what it could do for us. Humanist philosophy relies on the individual doing the right thing. But material philosophy and positivism cannot satisfy the hunger for redemption and the transience of biological life which renders our lives and struggles trivial and irrelevant. Today an emerging postmaterialist explanatory model working with quantum theory, the idealist model of consciousness and the world, origins cosmology and postdarwinian biology are helping to find science based but metaphysics reaching solutions to our deepest existential needs.

Wish all those ‘science & tech bros’ would read Russell’s excerpt; but they won’t bc it’s just easier to keep asserting that “philosophy doesn’t do anything.”

Well to be fair, Russell himself towards the end of his life and in later works suggested how most of philosophy was a giant waste of time. He even gave the advice to young people that they should skip it almost entirely and study science, mostly physics. So yea, not the guy to champion for the subject of philosophy. You can literally watch videos on KZfaq of him being interviewed saying these things.
@Summalogicae
@Summalogicae Ай бұрын
@@whitb62 To be fair to what? You speak as if I’m unaware of this information. One should listen to what Russell said in this video and engage in self-inquiry, regardless of what he may have said later. And should one read further into Russell’s corpus, one should continue to engage in self reflection with respect to his claims. So, to be fair, your invoking this is misses the point.

@@whitb62 Haha! Not the guy to champion for philosophy?!? You must not have ever been in a philosophy department before. Not only did I study with students of Russell but I studied at institutions in which he actually taught. @@Summalogicae Also, I wasn't trying to slam dunk on anything. I was merely pointing out the irony of you using Russell of all people to hit back at philosophy hating stem bros. Russell would have almost certainly agreed with them, that one should focus almost all of their intellectual energy on science and inductive reasoning. He even came to see all of deductive logic and mathematics as a giant tautology (an idea he inherited from Wittgenstein) and to partially regret the time and attention he had put on such areas. You sound really sensitive. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings...
