Beautiful! Where did you get the turning pen kit for Proxxon lathe?
@MKWoodworking
@MKWoodworking Ай бұрын
Well there is no dedicated kit for the DB250. I got creative and I will share you my approach. I did by a pen mandrel that was available online. Usually they come with a MK2 morse taper wich can be removed. I think I even bought one for around EUR25 and just cut the MK2 off with a metal saw. I just ended up with the 7mm rod that I fitted into the 8mm plastic collet that came with the DB250. The Bushings are part of the mandrel. For pens depending on the model there sre specific bushings available you need to order together with the pen kits. Does that answer your question?

What type of screws are you using? Brass ones? Then you have precut the thread with a steel screw. Otherwise I just drill a pilot hole hald a millimeter thinner than the diameter of the screw including the thread measured with calipers. I never broke a screw.

Were those made from the plans on the Shaper website? Came out really nice! Also, two of the best things I purchased since owning my Origin were Autopass and the calipers. I really like using the caliper and it just sends it right to the Origin. And Autopass. Even though I haven’t done enough production items to really gauge how much faster I get done, I know it’s nice not to have to stop anymore to enter the next depth.

Yes I uploaded the plans to ShaperHub and linked the video on my KZfaq Account. Thanks. I’m using Autopass as well and I can say it saves time. I have not bought the calipers yet but after you mentioned it here, maybe I should and give it a try.

Nice cart. How do you like the IGM PS33 planer? Is it feasible to use it with just the dust bag they give you with the machine? Or just a normal shop vacuum? Given the built in ventilator. Or do you still need a HVLP dust collection system?
@MKWoodworking

Thank you. I sadly was not able to use it yet, even after I built this cart. I hope that the build in ventilator increases the chip collection using my small Laguna BFlux1. I’m panning to use the planer with a HVLP dust collection system. But after you wrote this comment I will try to make a video where I will try to compare dust bag vs shop vacuum vs HVLP dust collection system. Need some time to prepare. Also, did you notice any improvements with the Cast Iron as apposed to the Cast Aluminum?
@MKWoodworking
@MKWoodworking 5 ай бұрын
I had weird black surface aluminum infeed and outfeed tables. I don’t know why. They were good. If you can afford the additional cost for the cast iron ones, I would go for them since it makes the whole device more solid and heavier. I can’t say that the wooden surfaces touch plane are getting better with the cast iron tables but I really like them.

Would you mind measuring the footprint of this machine and post it as I reply. I want to get this but need to make sure it will fit on my existing planer bench. Thanks
@MKWoodworking

Of course I can measure that for you and I just did. I mounted it on a movable card and the footprint for the machine is 500mm x 300mm to mount it on a surface or bench. The overall size including the infeed and outfeed tables and the fence adjustment is more like 900mm x 550mm. Does that make sense for you without a picture?

Hi. I actually went ahead and bought one. It was delivered on Monday. What a machine! I just love it. It has the regular coloured wings so happy enough with them. I would be interested to know what that blade guide you were using on that chop box. Is it roller bearings of some kind ? does it damage the teeth of the blade at all ? anythging you could tell me would be apreciated
@MKWoodworking
@MKWoodworking 9 ай бұрын
Hi, the blade guide is provided/a product from Veritas. There are no bearings. To prevent the teeth of the blade cutting in the plastic, you need to move your blade into it from the side rather using it from the top to the material you want to cut. The are for instance available here: www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/jigs-guides-and-fixtures/76038-veritas-miter-box-guides?item=05N7601 Does that help?

how did this ever turn out? Does it have enough suction for your use, in your opinion? Would love an update video on this vacuum because there is not many reviews out there.
@MKWoodworking
@MKWoodworking 9 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Well I must say the chip collector is small but lacks suction for longer hoses even in a smaller workshop. I have attached a flexible hose from Rockler and it seems that the suction is getting down a lot. I have moved to short direct connection between my 8” jointer and my thickness planer. For this setup with very short hose connections it is good. The size for my small workshop is just perfect but if I would again buy a chip collector I would go for a model with more suction power. Could be optimized, let’s say. :-)

For me the black cast aluminum tables worked well. I was a bit dissapointed that I did not get the silver colored ones but due to the pandemic I was happy to get the jointer anyway. I wanted to upgrade to cast Iron I did. I was not happy with the black ones, but I think that those are not part of the current deliveries of the Shinko Jointers by Dictum. If I would buy it again I would directly go fot the cast iron tables. I dependes on the budget. I think the ones with cast iron tables are EUR 899,- compared to EUR 679.- with cast aluminum at Dictum.

Just an important thing to note: I was a bit naive while just replacing the tables, using a straigt edge to check that the tables a re well aligned with eac other. The first jointing result was a disaster. I spend about 2 hours to adjust the outfeed table proberly against the blades and then the infeed table to the outfeed table. Make sure to set the depth handle to zero and then adjust the infeed table against the outfeed table using a straigt edge. Use a cheap piece of wood to test the jointing result and check again or readjust if necessary. I took me about 3 hours in total to get a kind of good result but I need to fine tune a bit more to get it as perfect as it was before. Please keep that in mind! Sorry for not covering that in the video.
