Would just like to correct a statement at 3:45 regarding phoning home. While Plex and Emby do this (Emby less so) for licensing, Emby does not require this for login. This one of the big reliability benefits to using Emby or Jellyfin over Plex, there's no cloud reliant authentication. Emby offers both a cloud connected login which functions like Plex called Emby Connect. However, this is optional and local accounts can be setup. Additionally, Emby supports LDAP for those with a local authentication server and OIDC is in discussion.

I'm running plex with arr's on a synology box. Thought about giving emby a shot. Anything to consider running both side by side?

I ended up going Plex with the pass hosting on a Windows server for ease of use, mostly. I may try Jellyfin again once I get a Google TV device where I can install the Jellifin client.

What if a channel has more than 50 videos? After you dl the first 50 will it grab from before that?

Thanks, man! I am running nginx on Truenas, so I had to change values to fit my set up. But I got it working in the end. Took two days and having this video up on a second monitor. Only issue I’m having now is the site will only load in Chrome, not Safari.

Everything works except for the Plex notifications. I have successfully linked Plex in the Notifiarr client. I have also added the webhook in the Plex settings. The odd thing is that Plex only sends a notification when someone starts playing media... but it never updates or notifies when someone stops playing media. I have everything checked in the Notifiarr Plex settings. Any idea?

definitely Jellyfin. Used to use Plex in the past but I am convinced that Jellyfin is here to stay.

Where are the logs stored on drive?

I currently have “external” access to my nextcloud and vaultwarden, but with wireshark. When I really need faster access I activate one Cloudflare túnel, do the access, and then I remove it. For my wife’s laptop I use a cloudflare tunnel so she can access her files in nextcloud.

Being new to the media server world I initially went with Jellyfin… I really wanted to love it bc of what it offers but for whatever reason I always have issues with it despite hours of troubleshooting and YouTubing and forum questions etc. Because of this and because I simply don’t have time to continually troubleshoot for both myself and people who use my server, I had to switch to plex. Unfortunately, it had been the only platform that just works with minimal effort for me. Maybe some day when I have more time to do a deep dive into Jellyfin I will use their platform again!

I'm currently running unraid as my main server but want to migrate to this method in order to have proxmox. If I use the same main array drives as I am using now will I loose my data or can my current array drives just be passed through and retain their data without having to reformat and such? Hopefully that question makes sense. Love this video and the series!

Could you please do a comparison of the UI between the three for 2024. Mainly the home screen and when you're in Movies and TV Shows. For some reason, Emby website lacks screenshots. I want to choose one, but this is coming from a long time Kodi user, as KODI imo has the best UI with Aeon MQ9 skin. But I do want to be able to continue videos from multiple devices, so Kodi may no longer suit me anyone with a new family / kids etc. Right now, without looking, I'm leaning towards Plex on a Synology NAS and be done with it, but I'll see how hard the other two are to setup I guess.

Great video. I’m looking at this case but the price gave me pause. How are the rails? I looked at a similar Rosewill RSV-L4500U with 15 bays case but people reported the rails were horrible. The backplane also concerns me. I have an LSI 9201 with a SATA “splitter” cable for 16 drives and I don’t if I can plug that into the Silverstone’s backplane or not.

From what I can see inheritance doesn't work. If you have previously created this hosts, folder properties don't do shit. After having created about 50 hosts BY HAND I now have to tell EACH HOST SEPERATELY to inherit attributes of the folder they're in BECAUSE SUBFOLDER PROPERTIES CAN'T BE EDITED! This program is a non-intuitive, difficult, buggy piece of shit that is a pain to set up and it's just easier to use Putty and Notepad. I have to do software updates on all these switches and I have spend A WEEK wrestling with this piece of sh1t. Who programmed this? A bunch of stoned hippies?
