i have Two FZR 1000 engines. I am trying to get them running because I want to build one into a Jet ski and the other one into a cross Kart that I want to build. I have asked many people around me for information on the wiring because it is a mess. Nobody and I mean nobody is willing to share any information or willing to help. I am trying to get an auto manual. I would like to learn so that I whenever a problem arises that I can solve it myself. I just found that one of the spark suppressors is damaged and boy did I get a shock for the replacement parts price. Now I wonder if it is even worth continuing with these projects.
@ChrisSofos18 күн бұрын
@edwinbredenhann5791 it's true that the original parts are extremely expensive! However, you can always get cheaper (and at the same time reliable) after market parts. Like the ignition coils that you have a problem with. As for if it's worth it, I'm not sure if it does for the purpose you want these engines for. It was worth it for me since I'm kind of obsessed with originality 😁 To protect the ignition coils from failing again and again, check what I have done in one of my other videos. It's under the FZR1000 updates playlist. I'm in the USA on a tour at the moment, but when I'm back in Australia, I'm willing to send you any information I have. Let me know how you go.

Hello Chris. My Fzr 1000 dont work properly, problems with 4th cylinder. Its the carbs and I had a problem few weeks ago with fuel supply, didnt get enough fuel because of bad fuel filter. I started it today and noticed a huge leak between 3rd and 4th carb, its o-rings I guess. Could that be the problem for 4th cyl not running before the leak? I think maybe it was not leaking fuel but got air leak there so cyl 4 didnt suck enough fuel? (there was slighty missfire from exhaust) And I noticed my fuel pump works only few seconds when I turn the ignition on, when it starts its not working anymore. So I connected fuel pump with separate switch to work all the time. Is it suppose to work all the time?
@ChrisSofosАй бұрын
The fuel pump works like that. It starts for a few seconds, and when the pressure builds up, it then stops through the fuel pump relay. As for the 4th cylinder, the leak might not be the issue ! First, make sure the spark plug on this cylinder ignites very well. A good trick to check this, is to swap the spark plug cables on cylinders 1 and 4. If the problem is now on cylinder 1, then the ignition is your problem (bad plug, bad coil, bad high tension lead). After making sure the spark plug or the cable or the ignition coil is not the issue, then go to the carburettor. The issue might be the low fuel level. If it's too low, no fuel will enter the cylinder. You'll need to adjust the fuel level if that's the case. Air leaks are another major factor. Lose rubber connector, or a broken one, is usually the case.

Had an -86 FZR400R EXUP, did some repairs to plastic exteriors with red white blue adhesive, tried a few jet sizes (bigger jets doesnt give more power but allows a little more useful rpm at the top). I was really happy i could keep mine in a condition so near the original, and to imagine i paid only around $1200 for it (Japanese import). Yours is cool in its own ways but it aint no FZR400 anymore, its for people who dont love FZR400, AT ALL. One of the most epic bikes, i encourage people to repair them but dont restore or put non original parts, just look at the ridiculous headlight he put in this video, and then the originals duals, to be subtle you could say "only one of them is non-binary, if you get my drift". Oh and drifty, this is the only bike i driven with stiff enough frame to let the rear drift, a subtle pushback on opposite handle (push it into the drift direction) and youll be "WOW, i didnt even know that was possible!". Unfortunately its epicness is limited by the driver, you need to cross the thresholds of recklessness before you can really love this beast. Warning to less experienced drivers, this is geared really low with tight ratios, no matter what happens you must not let off the gas too much and too sudden, and never ever try to steer it without countersteering, the fork angle and other geometrics will not let you steer without a little tilt. Keep pushing your toeballs on the opposite footrest.

Do you happen to know how it’s done? Thank you again

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words! In order to remove the air filter box in these models, you have to remove the alternator. It's a bit of extra work, but it'll come out. The motorcycle you have, having just 2000mls on it, is an extremely rare bike! Look after it like your own life. Well done 👍👍👍

Hi there. You can't repair them. You have to buy another one. There are many used on eBay or Amazon if you look into it. Models from 1990 all the way to the last year (1995) have the same oil pump. Here's one that I found in Germany: www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-FZR-1000-2GH-oil-pump-N2183-/402320815416?_ul=IL

Hey Chris, awesome work, looks and sound perfect! Got one question for you maybe you can help me. I have fzr 1000 engine on my buggy but is not driveable yet cause engine not run good. There are misfires and uneven running. Idle sometimes very low sometimes very high. Throtle response very bad from idle/stalling, mostly 3 cil running. But once I started it and it revs to 7k perfectly running on all 4. I cleaned carbs at local shop and changed engine (this is my second engine but with first one I had same problems.) And it wont rev higher than 6.5 - 7k rpm. I think now that is something with electric but dont know what. I tried two different sets of coils, the same. Exup servo seems to be working ok. Have spark on all 4. Sorry for long coment I just dont know how to get it running. *Oh and my coils are not screwed to some metal, do they need to be grounded?
@ChrisSofos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! As for your problem: Assuming that the carburetors are all good since they were repaired in a shop, the spark plugs are good, the ignition coils are good and you have a good compression, there's one thing that draws my attention. You said the idle is sometimes very low and sometimes very high. Check for leaks in the inlet manifold. If there's any air leaks, then more air than fuel will come in the engine, contributing to poor running. The rubber mounts of the carburetors to the inlet manifolds have to be crack free. If they do have cracks, then you have a leak that causes all these issues you mentioned. Sometimes the rubbers are good, but they are not tight enough either on the carburetor of the inlet side. Also check the manifold themselves. First, if the o-ring the have is OK and seals properly and second check underneath them. They should have a small allen bolt with a copper washer. These are there to remove them and screw the vacuum tool, in order to balance the carburetors. If they're not properly tight or the washer is missing, it's a problem. Check all that and let me know!
@Jumbojt2 ай бұрын
@@ChrisSofos thank you for reply. Yea I changed yesterday inlet rubber manifolds and its the same. (Yesterday I picked up carbs from cleaning so I tried fire it up and put those new rubbers.) Didnt changed those under the main manifolds. Ill check them today.

Thanks for the info. I replaced my board. Tach works now. But oil pressure is reading about 8 psi but I confirmed with mechanical gauge it should be 35 psi. I put 96 ohms across the wire but still was low. About 15 psi at 96 ohms. Any advise?
@ChrisSofos2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I had a problem with the oil pressure gauge as well. The problem it's not the gauge itself. It's the oil pressure sensor, located next to the oil filter. Replace it and you are done.
@Keeterbob2 ай бұрын
Did that too. Measured ohms across new sensor. 86 ohms. Still only 15 psi should be 40
@ChrisSofos2 ай бұрын
@Keeterbob if the pressure remains the same when the engine is cold or hot, then more than likely, the gauge is faulty. If the pressure is higher with a cold engine, then there's an issue with the engine (given you have a new oil pressure sensor). A good way to see the difference in oil pressure is in wintertime. Or you can try a thicker SAE engine oil and record the results. Are you sure that the needle of the gauge had not been removed and relocated on the gauge? People do that sometimes when the gauge indicates extremely high oil pressure.
@Keeterbob2 ай бұрын
It’s not the engine. I connected a mechanical gauge and had 35-46 psi. The pointer moves up a little but not much when I start it. Reving the engine had no effect. I ground the tan wire and pointer stays at zero. I disconnect the wire and pointer pegs at 60. I need to trace the wire to see where the tan wire goes into the dash. Something shorting it to ground partially. I get 86 ohms from the sender but 170 at the post behind the gauge in the dash
