What happens when the upstream home is flooded out because the water can’t go through….idiot.

Would you use these tree-trimming berms to handle storm run off? We have a swale through our property when we have storms water comes from a culvert in the road onto our property. We periodically have a small river. We've been trying to figure a way to manage this flow, slow it down, direct it on grade to an area where it will not erode some oaks we want to protect. Having a hard time getting the water to go where we want. We're in central TX also.

Your channel is so fascinating, I'm really glad I found it. The description on this video is very eye opening. I like how your videos acknowledge how deep in human history many of these land management practices go. We have much to remember, relearn, and innovate with! This channel gives me hope. THANK YOU!

I’m in central TxHill country and developers are killing the country by paving. Glad you have acreage. Wish I had more money to have land to do more conservation. Right now I need to stop my yard from flowing into my greenbelt.

Developers make me crazy. Such wasteful practices. Good video to show this.

Is there anywhere to find simple instructions to create berms on a contour by hand in my back yard? I want to build a berm & plant 3 trees on it.

I am happy to help. I also recommend Brad Lancaster's Book Water harvesting for Drylands and Beyond. Bill Zedyke is also a water Guru, and he has free books online.

I just found your videos looking for contour berm. Thank you for making these! We are having to deal with a ton of run off from a road and culvert that passes through a swale on our property. It has done a ton of erosion damage over time and we are tryign to save a stand of oaks from the damage by moving the water on grade along the property and letting it soak in and be on its way further away. Our first attempt failed in today's big storm but have more info now to go out and improve it. Check out the failure: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8xmic6T29yqiKM.html .

Phillip, Have you been able to address your Runoff issue yet? I would love to see what techniques you used to mitigate your situation.

Your Rock dam looks like it is doing a pretty good job. I would just add some more rocks wherever the water is overtopping the berm. The water going through the rocks is great and is helping slow, spread, and sink water into your landscape. Thanks for sharing!!

"It's acting like part of the river as the bedrock of the river." River channels are always eroded by the river. That's how you get gorges, channels, and canyons.
