Because they have so many hairs per follicle it causes difficulty drying. So, if they bathe in water they will get a fungal infection from not drying properly.

alot of rodents only take dust and sand baths, hampsters, chinchillas, im pretty sure rats. water is not good for them so they use dust and sand instead and it is very cute!!

Towel dry with extra care not to overheat them, followed by a dust bath once they’re minimally damp
