I think this is a good analysis. Personally, i dont read it as necessarily specifically toxic masculinity, but simply walter's deep destructive, greedy and prideful tendencies independent of any societal expectations of men. In short, I think Walter is using the societal toxic standard as a (inauthentic) justification to live out his power fantasies, but he would have done so even if he had no family to support, that is he is not necessarily driven or influenced in his actions by toxic expectations about masculinity, just using them to justify independently bad tendencies. I don't think the story neccessarily has to be read as walter and his environment suffering from him uncritically accepting certain gendered expectations, but could just as well be read as Walter indepently from these gendered expectations being fucked up in the head and using them to give himself an excuse to act on his deep character flaws.

No such thing as toxic masculinity. Breaking bad is about dark characteristics in people. Gendering those traits is just as unnecessary as bringing skin color into bad human behaviors. Go ahead and tell me how Marie’s kleptomania is toxic masculinity. Or how about Skyler laundering money? Oh wait- Lydia only favorite toxic masculinity character. See how dumb that sounds?

People who don't realize that Walt's greatest downfall is his ego, which is one of the core parts of toxic masculinity are fuckin stupid. Just imagine if he just stayed in the company and didnt broke up with gretchen because she's gonna be the provider in their relationship, he would've been a rich fucker. Every decision made and death that occured in that series revolves around Walts gigantic ego.

Toxic masculinity ... 🙄 Someday, maybe we'll lose that phrase. (And yet God forbid we ever talk about toxic femininity. (It's a thing -- I say this as a woman so I should know.) If it's a show about toxic masculinity, then it's weird how we root for everyone who allegedly embodies toxic masculinity so in that sense, it's hardly a cautionary tale against it.

Pride. Pride and Ego were the words you were looking for. That's the fundamental character flaw that makes characters break bad in this show. And trying to re-frame a human experience as a male-only experience just because it's a negative character trait is just sexist

why does it have to satisfy his "male ego" and not just "ego" in general i know its a dumb thing but i never once saw this as a show about toxic masculinity but how ego is the downfall of everyone male and female

Its “male” ego because it specifically tackles toxic masculinity. The feeling of “not being a real man”. Toxic femininity is a thing, but its not the focus of the show

Because the wants of the ego are tied to masculinity. Walt doesn't want just power in a broad sense, he wants to be "The Man who provided for his family".

I believe the reason you and your video is so disliked is the following: A discourse of the perils of masculinity and how one may wish to achieve it anyway possible rather than in an honorable way, meaning that for example being tough doesn´t mean one has to become a criminal - is one thing, but anything aproached through neo-marxism is what these people are refutting, including your polarized view that the ballad of walter white is to be summarized as a mere warning on ¨Toxic Masculinity¨ - your terminology alone being offensive to non neo-marxist academians, why? because anything in neo-marxism seems to have one goal only, to reinforce itself and its terminology and to only admit discourse with its own terminology and its own goals. In other words, most people do not believe your video can reach the level of honesty in its analysis than lets say, a less neo-marxist inclined person would be capable of achieving. Also, one of the biggest ironies is that you support Skylers infidelities, just as they were calling you an obvious cuck(?) which you seem to have had no idea why that would ever apply to you. Personally I do not think you are that biased, are you a bit of a feminist, yes, and I mean it in the academic sense, but you arent that high on the spectrum of feminist bias and extremism beyond your now natural commitment to its terminology. I also do not think your video is "wrong" per se.

I never once looked at Walt as a bad ass, he’s not only a coward, but most of his success is sheer luck and his education in chemistry. He’s extremely selfish, and maniac, and literally endangers his family over and over again. It’s wild to watch him burn his entire life down.

It is. It might not fundamentally, but toxic masculinity refers to an egotistical toxicity based on one's own stereotypical perception of their own masculinity. Gus's speech about how "a father provides" shows that his ego is based on his role as the masculine provider of his family.

In Breaking Bad, Walter White embarks on a journey driven by noble intentions but ultimately succumbs to the allure of power and self-preservation. Initially, Walt's decision to enter the drug trade stems from a desire to provide financial security for his family in the wake of his terminal cancer diagnosis. However, as he becomes immersed in the illicit world of methamphetamine production, his motivations evolve, revealing deeper layers of complexity within his character. Walt's transformation into the enigmatic persona of Heisenberg is gradual yet profound. Faced with the prospect of his own mortality, he seeks to reclaim a sense of agency and vitality that he feels has been stripped away by his illness and the monotony of his everyday life. However, it's not just about providing for his family it's about finding a sense of fulfillment and purpose that had eluded him for so long. As he becomes increasingly entrenched in the world of methamphetamine production, Walt discovers a talent and passion for the illicit trade that he never knew he possessed. His confession in the final episode, "I did it for me, I liked it, I was good at it," encapsulates this revelation-that his actions were driven not solely by altruism, but also by a deeply ingrained desire for personal fulfillment and validation. It's a poignant acknowledgment of the complex interplay between Walt's external motivations and internal desires, highlighting the multifaceted nature of his character arc.. As Walt delves deeper into the criminal underworld, his ego and pride become intertwined with his pursuit of wealth and dominance. Each success in the drug trade reinforces his newfound sense of power, blurring the lines between right and wrong as he rationalizes his actions in the name of providing for his family's future. However, the moral compromises he makes along the way erode his humanity, leading to a series of increasingly destructive decisions. Throughout Walt's transformation, his wife Skyler serves as a conflicted bystander, torn between her loyalty to her family and her growing disillusionment with Walt's actions. Her attempts to confront and resist Walt's descent into darkness are met with manipulation and coercion, further straining their relationship and exacerbating the rift between them. Meanwhile, Jesse Pinkman emerges as a tragic figure whose life becomes inexorably intertwined with Walt's. Initially serving as Walt's protégé, Jesse's descent into addiction and despair mirrors Walt's own moral decline, highlighting the corrosive impact of their partnership on both of their lives. In the final reckoning, Walt's attempt at redemption comes too late to undo the damage he has wrought. His legacy is one of devastation and destruction, leaving behind a trail of broken lives and shattered dreams. Breaking Bad is ultimately a cautionary tale about the seductive nature of power and the consequences of unchecked ambition, reminding viewers that the pursuit of greatness often comes at a steep price. So In conclusion Skyler is just an annoying character she doesn't really deserve hate as she is the lens In which we walts moral decal. Walt in the words of Jesse "he is the devil" that rape scene tho is questionable although to look at it through the lens of toxic masculinity doesn't make sense to me even though Walt is trying to be dominant and controling the scenes and rightfully so she is resisting, it isn't uniquely a masculine trait as women can be guilty it to though i might understand it wrong. You're welcomed to correct me
