I calculate timing with trigonomentry. I mark the flywheel with a marker and a corresponding mark in the case, then I advance it and then put the flywheel on loosely so I can feel the play this way I can then meet the marks and then I take the play to the other side and make a new mark in the case. Now by measuring the distance between the case marks and the crank shaft center so we get a triangle. Now just throw that shit in a online triangle calculator and you are set. This comment was probably worded poorly but try it out its as easy as advancing can get. Eezy peezy

Sorry for the dumb question but how do you advance the timing ‘half a key’. Isn’t the key tight in the keyway?

So for us novice guys without timing wheels, would it be accurate to say if you remove a .010 base gasket to raise the exhaust.010 or do you think that’s not high enough on these 590s.

Great video tinman, not trying to be a know it all but I think a ported 460 will pull a 36, you stated it's a 60cc saw but I always thought they were 76cc? Could be wrong

Trouble shooting is definitely always helpful, not to sure about running a saw without a key though. Different coils have different timing, isn’t it the size of the coil that sets the timing ?

When reading a plug color, does the brand of oil, or the ratio of mis , cause a different shade of golden brown ?. 😊 Compliments from me today 😊

Only because you installed a different coil in a previous video, timing was the first place my mind went. Little Husqvarna 450's use different coils and flywheels on the newer models than older ones. To make an "older" 450 coil work on a newer 450, you have to completely grind the key out of the flywheel.

Check out the flywheel number as it might be from 288 as they fit to the shaft and from 288/281 to 394 will work but will be retarded and from 394 to 288 will be extremely advanced.

Tin man i own two 2165 s and i case match the lower transfers , port them a little bit and a mild ported muffler and those are my go to firewood saws , i just built one for a logger buddy of mine and he loves it .

Tinman id rum my mix in that saw 32:1 cus of the advanced timing and all the other mods you did

All my ported saws has no timing advance except my 357 xpg

My personal opinion, I put the stock muffler back on it and dual port that muffler and see how that works

I don't know why it's not common for people to advance timing. More air, more fuel why not an earlier spark to get the fuel mix burning sooner. Just my thought on it. I think spark is often way over looked.

I didn't know you could run a saw without a woodruff key. I thought for sure the flywheel would spin. Maybe I'll try my old flywheel on my 272xp build to advance the timing, as it has no molded key in it. Are you sure it won't spin once it's locked down? TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

Awesome tinman coils and timeing are major game changers if the saw likes it 👌 . You should check out my ported/ advanced 440 xtorc she's a savage little saw . I have a recepie for 562's that's pretty deadly to . I'll go get a vid here rite now give you a look at em . Been about a week since I let them chew anyway lol

I ran Stihls starting with a 048 magnum, 056 magnum and an 038 magnum and did all my own maintenance and repairs.

I also look at the ring tension on each piston.

Tin, I am a welder, fitter, and fabricator and I am only going to mod my pipes on my 562 and 585, but I intend to build pipes for both. I do appreciate this video and I would only give you shit about the welds in person and with a big assed grin on my face. As long as it holds up how you want it, so be it. The 590 owners manual specifies a top end of 12-13K, so I’m not sure what I’m missing about it not hitting the specs.

I'm surprised they use an open bearing design at that position. Why not use a sealed bearing?

Can I ask a questing got a 365 x torq and top end was scored when I got it so flung on a aftermarket cyclnder and piston the compression is so much I can't actually get it to start and fuel starts to leak out the decomp valve when I'm pulling it over 😊
