I once stayed in Rodeway inn there, was pretty calm, besides of a few shady characters lurking in the parking lot. The room smelled like a lab though… But I was dead tired and needed to sleep. 🛌

Mohave is 20 minutes from Lancaster, and about the same distance from Edwards AFB. Lancaster has all the stores Mohave might lack and is a possible cheap off base place to live for Edwards folks. Land away from the highway is super cheap and I could see someone buying a parcel to build on or as a seasonal RV camp, assuming you don't mind the million wind towers to the north and west.

Bakersfield August 2024: This town has grown into a small city, crime is down, jobs are up, and the homeless are being ushered off our streets, bike lanes are here and more is coming. I call Bakersfield; The Jewel of the Desert, why? High Speed Rail is Coming, a new Indian Casino/Hotel coming late 2025 30 miles south of town and housing is booming. I came from southern Cal Coast because of the cost of living since retiring I play Golf twice a month, ride ebikes with family and visitors, Swimming night and day and fine dining Petroleum Club and out. I find that Bakersfield is a great place for retirement. Also the Kern River offers lots of activities and parks/wildlife. The best side is the Westside, it's the newer part of town lots of new homes and communities. Just don't tell anybody about us ok? Just Kidding Come Join Us if you love our San Joaquin Valley!❤❤❤❤😂😂😂 FYI HOT 2-3 months a year but not like Palm Springs or Las Vegas.

Why does nobody question the fruit and vegetable production in that area? It is possible with much less or without all that chemicals. Yes, of course with less profit, Why isn't there enough water to restore (which only makes sense with less chemicals)? Is it all needed for Palm Springs? What about this idea to bring water from the sea in? Maybe politicians don't care enough about that region?

Get out of prison-get shipped to Barstow, your on section 8, you live in Long Beach, LA, Pomona, Anaheim- they will ship you out there- almost all the apts is section 8. The people who run this town should all be put in prison, they are the most corrupt governmental staff.

I was born and raised in Barstow during the 70s & 80s. Although its population growth has been extremely anemic over the last 40 to 50 years, it has been growing, nevertheless. I believe your figures are wrong about population decline. In fact, the 2020 census puts Barstow's population over 25,000 people. That's a far cry from the 1970s when the population was around 17,000 when I was a child. Also, the crime & gang problem in the city is exaggerated. Today's violence occurs mostly in the old part of town, but it's not like Compton. For locals that grew up there, Barstow is still pretty safe. Besides, we always had gangs. I remember when the wall along Montara Rd was covered with gang graffiti in the early 80s! Plus, the projects around the Ville had a lot of problems with gang fights & parties. But everyone still knew each other, and I got along fine with gang members. However, Barstow has a large problem with property crime, but again, that has always been the case even decades ago. Barstow is still a great town with a lot of potential.

Build a canal from the sea of Cortez. Buy out all properties and relocate the owners to a new coast line. The new coast line will be much farther away as the sea will need to be much larger to make the water less salty and dilute it so life can thrive. Construction of large desalination plants will harness salt for industrial needs. The desalinized and treated water will then be used as drinking water and sold to different surrounding counties. Any excess water can be channeled to an aqueduct that empties back out to sea off the ca coast. A constant inflow and outflow will keep the salt levels at an acceptable level. Large developments along the new coast can be sold for large amounts of profit due to the property revaluation once the sea is restored. New cities Lithium mining and industries will supply the funding needed over time and recover the cost. Profits will also be made with salt harnessing and water production. The sea should be filled to twice its former capacity. A place of beauty and glory will become an economic power house and create new costal cities with massive potential. A large fishing community will also become once again better than ever before. A new permanently sustainable paradise with massive benefits and ecological benefits will then be a reality. Even a small amount of sea level rise can be corrected because of the massive amounts of water that will be needed from the sea of Cortes to make this a reality. This project through its benefits could even pay for itself and generate massive wealth for the developers.

I grew up in Barstow. It has always been a hardcore conservative town, especially with its economy evolving around the military. Ronald Reagan begun his campaign for governor in Barstow. The 23rd Congressional district, or any US House district that covers Barstow HAS NEVER had a Democratic representative during the 21st or 20th Century. The district has always been represented by a Republican. The city has an African-American Republican mayor. I grew up with his brothers. So you really don't know what you're talking about, and you should get your facts straight...unless you're just trolling 🤔

The High desert like Barstow, Victorville & the like used to be quiet & peaceful but about 6 years ago, LA low income could no longer live in LA bc they couldn't afford the rent so there was a high influx of LA gang members that come to the High Desert & took over all the low-income housing & that was the end of the quietness & no crime areas & now they are the worst places to live bc of the gang mentality & high crime that was brought with them.
@jamesbrown9721
@jamesbrown9721 9 күн бұрын
It's a mischaracterization to say "they took over low income housing." The only low income subsidized housing in Barstow is the old section 8 projects on Rimrock & Montara Avenue filled by older residents. Most newcomers to Barstow moved into market rate housing & apartments that used to be filled by military families who moved out to Ft Irwin after the government built a massive amount of FREE government public housing for them.

@@4KTravelChannel I am not really sure about that, it appears people will go as far as Rosamond because of the drive into LA, Rosamond will be a more likely place for boom town, I know I lived there and saw it grow since I was a military GI at Edwards in the late 70's.
