Although I like the sound of the SYOS piece, I like the Ted Klum Florida model better in that it gives one a more authentic Tenor sound whereas the SYOS sounds a little thinner and the tonal range doesn't sound as wide as the Florida mpc. Great review Rick!

Bb and C triads are in the key of F, not two different keys.

So, the goal is memoryze the sound of a single note, in the case the flat 9, is that?

I don't know if I understand correctly, so I should practice several different licks, which contain the note 9 flat, so I could memorize the sound of 9 flat, is that it? Is the goal to memorize flat 9? If that's the object, how would that make me sound more jazzy?

Wow! I am a pianist on Cape Cod and saw that he is scheduled to play a concert here this month and needed to look him up because I was not familiar with him. I listened to him play online and then found this fabulous conversation. Besides his beautiful playing, I am so impressed with his upbeat personality and great communication skills. What an amazing teacher he must be for his Berkeley students! Thanks for sharing this.

Interesting. Are you intentionally still phrasing them in 4s/8s and not in 3s/6s?
@nickmainella10 күн бұрын
It's mostly about lining it up with the metronome right now and not phrasing. I'll get there eventually though!!
@gcpd95249 күн бұрын
Sir you did not line that up with the metronome. Still very good but maybe take it down a few clicks
@harrisonmccomb15119 күн бұрын
@@gcpd9524 yeah I agree. I kept listening back to it and you are playing some kind of uneven tuplets but not triplets exactly.

You're inspiring me to practice...I can hear both your tone and facility on the horn has grown over the last year. I'm a long time sax player who has concentrated on guitar as my primary instrument and is now trying to get the same level of chops on the sax. I've played both for 40ish years. It's the 12 keys that makes it the slow grind on sax! Dexter Gordon will always be my favorite player!

In the passage about "diatonic triads," you refer to the part of the solo that, by that time, is off the upper part of the screen, so the listener has no notion of the specific notes to which you refer.
@ericgrosch807325 күн бұрын
It is disconcerting to hear you talk over the solo. If you want to comment, stop the solo and comment. I am not familiar with some of your jargon, which I'd like you to explain, such as your talk about chords and notes placed over them. I would appreciate it if you would go slower and explain more fully.

Good Idea, but the half of all is missing. You have to hear to what the Lines are related- the harmony/chords! And the piano may played f.e. this Bbm-Sound… Music is more hearing/feeling, less calculating. Calculating-Stuff is nice for Authistics, Asberger‘s or AI‘s :-)
