Bleed every bubble from your engine from the top of your radiator cap with a Repco Radiator bucket then you know there is zero air pockets in the engine and entire cooling system. And NEVER mix different grades of coolant like you did. The green and yellow coolant are not good for Old School Engines as they have a corrosive inhibitor in them. Use ALWAYS Penrite Old School Classic Radiator Coolant which you mix with water.

Mate you didn't need to go to that extreme. Get your hands on a genuine FoMoCo Radiator for a V8 and all your problems would be solved. Putting in this doesn't look or match the vehicle whatsoever and could have been way easier achieved given I run an XW GT 351 in the NT where its way hotter than where you are based with a 160 thermostat and no issues whatsoever. The only time it gets to 180 is when I pull up and turn it off , then when I start the engine back up it drops almost instantly back to 160. And even at lights in traffic.

G'day mate! Cheers she has a great chop at idle this thing, but I reckon its a bit raspy up top. It has Pacemaker 1 & 3/4 4 into 1 headers on it, then its into a 2 1/2 inch system with a balance pipe and one straight through muffler (no idea what brand) each side. It sounds great at cruise and when you pound it (its loud). I have heard smaller, simpler systems sound good too. If your car is low - id steer clear of 4 into 1s as mine scrape bloody everywhere at the collector flange. Should have gone try ys. What is on yours now? Cheers!

She's having overheating issues & i'm thinking i need to replace the water pump(or at least take a look at the condition of it) and the radiator. I appreciate your content mate, keep it up! Rebuilding my stroked clevo now which i have been dealing with overheating for many years with different fan, water pump combos until i put on a 16" spal pusher fan coupled with a mechanical engine fan. This combo JUST keeps it driveable up to around 30-35C. FFS i cant believe i didnt find out I was missing the plate till now! It makes total sense, fingers crossed it works for me. So did the factory have a plate in there?

G'day Kim! Mate - Get that plate in there and run a proper Clevo thermostat and watch your life change!! (hopefully anyways..) Used a Davies Craig digital controller with a sensor in a Davies Craig plastic sleeve spliced into the top radiator hose. Currently have it set to high 170's so it doesn't go over 180. I still wanted the dash gauge to show temp with the original sensor in place. I also use a dual thermo fan from an EL Falcon I think but had to cut it up and modify a bit for the top radiator inlet. Have an XD triple flow radiator that is a work of art. I use the correct thermostat but 180 degree. Used the heat gun to confirm block stays around 180. Made a custom battery tray to fit as no chance original fits with XD radiator.

Top tip if you don’t want to do half of this work just dump all the coolant to make sure you don’t have any glycol in there top up with plain water and add a product called “DEOX-C” get it in power form !!. it dissolves rust completely…… and I contacted the company and they said it was safe on the metals and plastics that are in the system leave it in there for a month it likes heat so drive the car My cars heater started working again!! My blocks coolant jackets were clean The radiator had no scale left in it I also had no deposits in my tefba radiator strainer the stuff works It also allowed me to unscrew the lower block coolant plugs out as they weren’t rusted in anymore I drained then flushed with distilled water then refilled with coolant from my local diesel truck mechanic Edit: I also had a water pump noise on this same Cleveland I did this work to.. it was the built up scale on the impeller scraping on the front timing cover that noise also went away 😊
