I recently experimented with carving leather and it turned out pretty good for my first time carving leather I have previously used branding methods to emboss leather it's probably not what you're used to seeing but some may appreciate the art of it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNdgoNRpyd2clKM.htmlsi=HgdUoNSpYk-P5ugX

Not a very good machine, threads like a pain in the ass, the bobbins a motherfucker to keep right, needles bust easy, threads bunch out, they’re bobbin Winder doesn’t wind very well

The edges were sharp and cut an outline around the letters. I'm planning to sand them. I also used a marker stamp to the top side so I don't burn up so much leather with dumb mistakes.

That leather is very lightweight and floppy. I'd do a slightly thicker and firmer leather to allow for carving, and molding.

How would you adjust the pattern for us bigger folks
@TandyLeatherCo
@TandyLeatherCo Ай бұрын
The pattern includes sizing up to XL (chest measurement of 62-68" and waist measurement of 54-56"). If you'd need something larger than that it would be time to take the pattern and do some testing! There are a number of methods about sizing up and down for wearables, but nothing is really guaranteed without doing some extra patterning. I hope this helps, and feel free to look at the exact measurements of sizes on our product page: tandyleather.com/products/chest-armor-paper-pattern Happy crafting!

Does including the 'x' part of the stitch (rather than just going around and through each hole) also serve a particular function, so that it would be chosen for certain projects and not for others? Or is it mostly used because it looks neater?

Hi I used the top coat for my dyed leather but when I swiped with a little water after it all dried, some of the dye still came off. What should I do
@TandyLeatherCo
@TandyLeatherCo Ай бұрын
Hi! It is common for the moisture in finishes to reactivate the leather dye a little, so some color transfer during the first or second coat of finish is normal. We do recommend buffing your leather piece before applying your finish, with a microfiber towel, to help remove any excess pigment on the surface and reduce the color transfer effect. Hope this helps, and happy crafting!

Is the pen you are using a normal pen, or is it specifically for leather?
@Stryker2

A normal ink pen works just fine. Just be careful not to accidentally get any ink on the front side of your leather. I doesn’t come off.

Hi! It is a normal ink pen, however there are pens made specifically for leather that is easier to wash off (in most cases)! I hope this helps and happy crafting!

I'm trying to figure out, that first part, do you continuously have that lace to make the X?.. the part he said, you need 7 inches? When you prep the lace it must be halved to keep that extra bit on top that makes the 'X'?.. would be great to see the back...:-\

I started tooling leather as a teen, back over 50 years ago. Intended to never stop this awesome hobby, but life got in the way, and I junda focused on a career and raising a family. Now that I'm retired, it's time to dif out the tools and pick up that swivel knife again! Thought Id watch a few videos and catch up on what I've forgotten iver the past 40 yearrs. Used to visit Tandy in Oklahoma City, now I'm using the Tulsa store. The people are still as awesome as usual, I was kinda shocked at how they prices on everything has gone up, but what hasn't over 40 years , tight, lol?
