Adam - excellent tutorial. A suggestion. It should be noted that Laminar flow over a flat plate transition near RN= 0.6x10^6 - which is a very low airspeed based on MAC of the Mustang wing. Implicitly the next stage of Transitional Turbulent Boundary layer before full blown Turbulence near the region of adverse pressure gradient - should be the focus of comparison between the Mustang NAA/NACA 45-100 airfoil with T/C max ~ 38-40% vs NACA 23015 or Republic S-3 with T/C max ~ 30%. True - the Horkey team, using Kutta-Jukowski, Theordorsen and Prandtl transformations began the analysis & design based on reducing T/C, LE shape, etc of the NACA 450125 Laminar Flow airfoil, then further refined based on desirable CMac and stall characteristics but they quickly learned that the Mustang wing was not 'Laminar'. NAA always described the wing as High Speed/Low Drag - never 'Laminar'. What was discovered was that the Transitional Turbulent BL while 'thicker' and increased as a f(T/C), it was much smaller than turbulent BL and chaotic eddies beyond T/C> 50%. When the Germans tested a captured P-51B (from D-Day), they discovered the same phenomena and commented that the wing's 'attached' BL was greater than 25% more than any previous airfoil of best fighters. The Bf 109 had a modified NACA 23015 and the FW 190 a 23015.5. Such major separation. of course, increased friction drag, but I would pose that the smaller associated 'frontal' region of relatively quiet flow and area seen by the freestream past the T/Cmax perhaps reduced comparatively the pressure drag associated with a real wing. Your comments?

Just found this channel For jets, if you assume thrust is always constant and ignore transonic drag, you can actually solve for the optimal climb speed exactly as a function of the jet's top speed. IIRC it's about 65% of the top speed, which for the Me-262 gives around 500km/h, as is commonly known. Similarly, if you assume prop efficiency is constant for props, then the optimal climb speed occurs when drag is minimized, which is typically the speed at which induced drag becomes negligeable. A good visual cue for this speed is that it is usually 10-20km/h faster than the speed at which the visible wingtip vortices disappear in-game. These two rules of thumb always get you within 5% of the optimal climb rate in my experience. It's interesting to know that this can be optimized even further by data mining, i might run some simulations of my own

Your offer is false. I clicked on your link and it says that I can subscribe for a yearly fee of Billed $30 annually or $5/month billed monthly, which doesn't include access to the Curiosity platform and yet you claim that by using your sponsored link I get it for less than $15.00 a year? Come on man, you're playing masterhead here. You aren't the only smarty pants around the block!

With the formula, is it normal I fall on a unit in m² . s^-3 ? 1N = 1kg*m*s^-2 so the kg get simplified while the rest doesn't meaning I get a strange unit for a speed.

First time watching War thunder gameplay where it didn’t feel like it was giving me a heart attack. Realizing how many American players don’t understand how to use American planes and have no patience or over commit to trying to take someone out and then bleed too much alt/energy. So much to learn in this game to become a decent American aviator seems like you have to know all the weaknesses of all other planes. German/Soviet/Japanese planes seem so much more user friendly.

4:24 I think the higher lift coefficient of the Bf 109K-4 compared to other Tier IV Bf 109s has a lot to do with the clamshell wheel well doors covering the outer part of the front wheel wells. The clamshell doors essentially "smooth" the wing shape and increase its efficiency, whereas the previous Bf 109s had interruptions in the wing shape caused by the partially exposed main landing gear wheels (that reduced the efficiency of the wings). Really the wheel well doors, for a weight increase of just 4kg per my calculations, add A LOT to the Bf 109's performance.

I found it useful even just for the explanation of gradual damage done by overheating. I always WEPed to red numbers and thought that no damage is done unless engine starts to get yellow. By the time the damage was done I am already in the battle, so too busy to notice numbers get red at different point. Also not great to damage your engine even during initial climb, before somebody even shoots at you.
