I think you need to realize something about liberal religion. Liberal religion interprets Christianity in terms of how they perceive the challenges of life we face. I agree with this. It is a fact that we sometimes fail to live up to our moral ideals. It's true this preacher is LGBTQ, but I'm sure she still has a sense of what betrayal means in relationships. The David and Bathsheba story is basically a story about betrayal and manipulation. I remember a priest said once that "the Book of Psalms is the Reader's Digest version of the Bible." I'm pretty sure early Jews would take their lessons from the Psalms if they didn't have the time or ability to read other books of the Hebrew scriptures. Psalm 51 definitely shows the need for repentance.
