I would need half a gallon of LSD before I would consider even seeing this. Probably doesn't help that the child actors in the OG were awful and annoying. As much as I love stage shows. I'll stick with team starkids stuff for now. higher quality. And finally, you will never NOT EVER be able to recapture the nightmare that was the original child catcher. never ever ever.

You know it seems like this is the direction a lot of productions are going with Oz. making Toto a puppet. As much as that shows your creativity, and may be fun, there's something missing when you watch the show with a puppet. And that is the audiences response to a live dog doing all the things that Toto is supposed to do. is magical when you see the dog do those things and the audience reacts, and sometimes the live dog even steals the show. Sure is this creative, absolutely, is it harder to take more time and train a dog, probably. They just did something about a live dog on stage doing tricks that we all respond to

For those who are unfamiliar with the history: My Beautiful Laundrette is a 1985 film, written by Hanif Kureishi and directed by Stephen Frears. It stars Gordan Warnecke and Daniel Day-Lewis, with Saeed Jaffrey and Roshan Seth. It came out the same year, indeed the same day (March 7) as the hugely successful Merchant/Ivory adaptation of E.M. Forster's A Room with a View, also starring Day-Lewis. This double act of two vividly contrasted roles really established Daniel Day-Lewis's reputation as a film actor. I remember MBL with pleasure as one of the best gay-male-focused films of the decade -- two years before Merchant/Ivory's Maurice. All best wishes to everyone involved in the stage version!

Sorry, I thought this was awful. I’m a big Matthew Bourne fan and watched most of his work and enjoyed almost all of them, but this one was just awful. Save your time and money and go watch Mats Ek’s or Angelin Preljocaj’s R&J if you want a modern take.
