I absolutely adore my DST 8 iron. It’s impossible for a coach to tell you how impact should feel. Regardless how many times I’ve asked any of my coaches. This club immediately lets me feel where I should be at impact and I simply work back from there. 👍🏼

I probably wouldn’t need this video If I learned to play golf when I was young. But for someone who learned golf later in life, this is really an incredible video and is super helpful for explaining the physics of the game. Thank you British homie!

Wish I would have seen this video 20+ years ago. Every other instructional video like eliminating early extension and swinging from the inside now makes a lot more sense when you truly understand what’s optimal geometry at impact and maintaining lag pressure.

If you want to allow for more hinge at the top, you can take your thumb off, itll give the feel of a more hinge set wrist. When people have a poor hinge, this is the first step. I also like to grab the club head with my off hand (when I do just the top half of this drill) so I can use tha thand to force the lead hand to not cup. You are the most knowledgeable instruction on youtube. Every action you mention is based on logic and functional movement.

As a teaching pro, that focuses (and gives you credit whenever I go into detail on one of my videos), I have to tell you that when I found your first 'if you play golf you need' video, it changed how I taught golf. I made a recent video that talks about Phil Mickelson making comments that directly support this exacty philosophy. In the video I explain how having the hands forward does a few things, that Phil didn't mention, but helps to explain the physics and mechanics of the human body during the golf swing. In my opinion, forward press and a shortened back swing is the key to mid handicap golf. Until someone reaches a single digit handicap the more complicated techniques are wasted. One thing people dont mention enough is the newest 'tilt and cover' lingo that is going around. Without your hands forward, there is literally no way to hit a ball from the middle to front of the stance, without thinning or scooping. Another is the 'miss' scenario. If you can have your hands in front of the ball at all times, and you have a moderately consistent path, you can force your miss to be left or right every time as the club head remains in control. I play a cut both in my rounds, and in Long Drive Competition. I allows me to know exactly where my club face is and gives me a starting point to every day. Thanks so much for what you do. You motivated me to start my channel, and if you ever get to the states / South Florida please look me up. I would love to just talk golf with someone I consider transformative in this space.

How do I beat feel vs. real? I know the position I need to get to, it always feels like I do it, but once I bring out the video I’m always flipping. What’s the best tip to get into the money position?

Forget hitting balls. Have a chalk line in the middle of your stance and learn to take your divot on the target side of the line! You’ll notice having significantly more transfer of weight into your lead side and more weight on the outside of your lead shoe at the finish. Good luck

Very good with the club pro. I practice 2 times a week. I’m a senior golfer turned 70 last year. Unfortunately I have arthritis throughout my body, especially in my right hand and fingers. I’m a right handed golfer. I use JumboMax Medium Tour grips, because I can’t close my fingers on my right hand, and wear a bionic golf glove on my right hand. These gloves have pads built in the finger joints. I practice on Tuesday and Thursday, play on Saturday when weather permits. Every other day routine because my fingers need to recover. I volunteer my time helping others at the range I frequent. It’s my way of giving back to the game, that offers me the opportunity to enjoy even beyond 70 years of age. I’ve been an advocate student of the game, more so in last few years, because of time available with retirement from working. I use a lot of the same techniques that I saw on the first video of yours. I believe in working on my impact position, always keeping the handle ahead of the club head, weight forward on front foot, staying centered with head behind the ball, at impact. I’m an inside to out swinger. I just wish I knew earlier what I know now, when my body was in better shape. Unfortunately life doesn’t go that way for some of us.

few questions if you dont mind: is this impact position similar to the concept of compression i often hear about? would more shaft lean at address be a good idea to reach impact? and how to flight the ball high while delofting the club with such an impact? thanks
@Dstgolf
@Dstgolf 6 ай бұрын
The ball trajectory while having a compressed impact is achieved through ball position. Position the ball further forwards to have a high softer flight and further towards the middle of your stance for a lower than standard penetrating flight. Hope this helps.

Manufactures can keep producing equipment with larger sweet spots, lighter Shafts, faster clubfaces but the impact line situated on the hosel of DST training clubs give the best indication in delivering an iron to produce great impact, a must for all golfers 🏌🏻‍♂️ It’s great to see the optimal impact and work the swing backwards from there

Putters are covered with lines, dots, ball shapes etc and no one thinks that is at all odd. I suspect that club manufacturers are more concerned that if the impact line improves their club users game they will be more likely to hang on to their old clubs than buy the latest new set in a desperate attempt to improve their game. I once lent my old scruffy set of irons to a chap and on a 200 yard par three with a green 30 foot above the tee box he hit a 5 iron and dropped the ball a few yards from the pin. The lesson I took was it's 99% the swing not the club. I hit a few shots on a simulator with my 7 iron at the invitation of my local golf shop staff. I'm rubbish, they were very polite and positive, then tried to sell me a set of Pings. We all knew it would make no difference at all to my game, I'd just be a £1k poorer. As a golfer in the trenches so to speak my advice to the golf manufactures would be the first adopter would reap the benefit. In thirty years of playing the only real repeatable improvement I have ever made is from watching and learning from the DST videos. I'd buy whichever manufacturer is first to introduce the impact line on their clubs.

How can I get the HPAM on my irons?
@Dstgolf

Good question Charlie, Its a service we would love to be able to provide to US based golfers but it's not logistically feasible. The major manufacturers should be incorporating the Impact Line in to all clubs to help golfers.
@CoryLancasterYT
@CoryLancasterYT 6 ай бұрын
But, that just aint a gonna happen. If manufacturers allowed a way y for players to get better, they might just realize they don't need new clubs every year or two. So, the question remains, how do you get your technology and process distributed out to the many small build shops in the US and train them how to run the laset?

I draw the ball and need MORE loft on my irons, not less....my question is why would I want to turn my wedge into an 8 iron?? 🤔
@Dstgolf
@Dstgolf 6 ай бұрын
You can still decide the trajectory you hit your wedge based on the ball position within your stance. So, you can easily hit a high wedge shot by moving the ball position forwards. The reason for having the club trailing an extension of your lead arm is to maintain control over the club until after you've made contact with the ball. Otherwise you're flipping at the ball with limited control, which is not a consistent move.

Glad you showed the camera showing inaccurate bowing, ppl think hickory twisted and bowed because of looking at frames at impact from old camera. I've played hickory and theyre pretty much like graphite shafts and in those days you could have stiff hickory shafts by simply not whittling them down. I could hit nice high draws or baby cuts with a mashie iron. It was basically a 5iron.

All this to get 6 yards off the tee?? I bought one of these a few years ago. I could hit the trainer well, but it didn't change my real life impact position at all. I'm pretty sure no professional caliber golfer creates shaft lean deliberately. I believe it is a consequence of other factors, but I don't claim to know exactly what those factors are!
@Dstgolf
@Dstgolf 6 ай бұрын
The best players in the world aren't using the clubs to gain 6 yards off the tee that is just an added benefit, they use it because it gives them greater control and a better more consistent quality of strike.
