I used to work in Mainframe systems rooms. Rows of disk drives and controllers and sometimes printers rattling along Not to mention my last job where I stopped running over half a state to fix problems and went to work for a local customer running their Digital printer. An 80 foot conglomeration of machines that took 70 inch rolls of paper and turned them into stacks of 8.5 x 11,14, all the way up to 22 by 20 sheets but at the 8.5x11 size at 31,000 sheets and hour, full color. And the noise of the things would put me to sleep. I Learned to sleep in college dorm to the sound of a fan so I could overcome people coming home from bars at 2 in the morning. I swear, one night the cowboys were teaching newbies to two step up and down the hall till 4am one night. But its no louder then any other window unit. Makes conversation bad in a small room but not when just the fan itself is running.
