When I was a small child, my father made me a “guitar” from a cigar box, a wooden ruler, some fishing line, and a few other odds and ends. It had a bridge and frets, but I don’t think it had a sound hole or a sound post, and I don’t remember how it was tuned. As a toy in the hands of a musically-untitored and somewhat destructive seven-year old, it didn’t last very long. But of one thing I am certain: It sounded far better than a ukulele!
