Very hard video to stomach, hearing him say they want to 100% cut out resellers as much as possible, ooff. They don’t deserve the business they get…

Many salty resellers in the comments. At the end of the day, goodwill is looking out for themselves, just like everyone else. Can’t blame them for keeping more profits for themselves.

Will be curious to see how Goodwill fares in the coming years. Those stores & warehouses cost money, electricity, insurance, employees, the hardware/software they run for all that, transporting goods from store to those sorting houses (trucks, drivers, insurance, gas) , shipping packaging costs to send out items bought, postage, etc. etc. add up at the end of the day. Time will tell if they made the right decision to go into the re-selling business especially when in store sales drop drastically due to no re-sellers wasting their time and money there anymore - I know haven't for some time now.

shop goodwill is an inherent negative for thrift stores, taking items they get for free and selling them for market price is exorbitant. they already sell free items from $3-$50 in their stores if not more on occasion, they make money hand over first as the only costs they have are maintaining stores and employees. its completely ridiculous in my opinion

New subscriber. This is the best re-seller channel I’ve come across in a long time. Keep going. This channel should have way more subscribers but after two years I just now found you. Have you reached out to some re-seller podcasts to get the word out? I think it’s amazing Goodwill has allowed you to interview/film behind the scenes. Keep up the good work!

This is the biggest profitable scam ever. The donations are free and they are literally cherry picking every thing for a higher than retail value for resale. Many articles on this and what the owner and CEO makes. But everything you read is elusive and backhanded. Everything you need to know is in this video. These items were literally donated for free and they are telling you they are reselling these items for high value. Instead of passing them on for a discount to customers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how the rest of the equation works out. Because it ain't going to the employees.
@loutewl6903
@loutewl6903 8 сағат бұрын
GW needs to give a kickback to the original owners of the items. It's egregious to get a $20,000 watch that was probably accidentally donated and not split it with the original owner.

Paid 5 a piece for 2 just to make sure I got the best ones. The rest they gave me that were just as good. We have to learn how we source now. And yes, goodwill is not the place any more. Nothing but junk now with inflated prices. I don’t spend near as much as in the past. Can’t even find CDs there.

Ok Mr. GW Manager, here you go - stop colluding with the C-suite and advocate for your workers to make a DECENT wage (min isn’t decent) and provide excellent benefits. Where else can disabled workers make a great living? I won’t shop GW regular stores, because they suck but I will shop the bins. “Supporting our mission”, yeah right, donations supporting an overpaid CEO. That’s not a good look. I’d be embarrassed. The board needs to go too.

100% of their product is donated (free) Most of their associates are paid minimum wage or a little over. They spend over $100 million on salaries for their upper-tier management - (from $400k to over $1,2 million each) I just cannot get behind this organization. The bulk of their sales goes to further their retail operations. (over 3000 locations and growing) They post on their website that 90% of their income (over $6 BILLION a year) funds their charitable operations. They make it seem like 90% of that goes to good causes. (They preach it to their staff, so they repeat it, like the chap in this video did) - The reality is, they are preaching it to the staff, thinking the staff will not make as many issues about their lower pay since "the company gives all their money to charity", so they have a sense of helping their communities, and are less likely to make waves about their pay. The reality is, after they spend to operate and increase their retail operations, salaries, etc, they only have a few million left over. I do not dispute that they are giving 90% of that number away, since they have the data buried too deeply in broad categories on their balance sheet and company fundamentals. There are way better charities to get behind. To name just a few: Salvation Army (Area CEO's make about $80k/yr in contrast to Good Will area CEO's) Ronald McDonald House Shriners Children Hospital St Jude Hospital Gary Sinise Foundation (for Veterans) Too many more to list - A quick Google search will lay them out. A couple that are not good selections are: March Of Dimes United Way Remember, donating your old items to Good Will is like donating it to Wal-Mart if they accepted stuff for re-sale. (A for-profit company that likely spends a little more on charities than Good Will does each year?) All of the above is my opinion, developed from my own experience and research. Everyone is of course supposed to do as they see fit.

I've worked in non-profits just like this one and many of the people on the front lines (working retail/service or in receiving/pricing) are the kindest hearted people you'll ever meet, and they're the ones who create revenue and do make a difference. But higher up the organizational chart it's usually a different story.

My local GW is the worst. I hunt movies and other stores in the state have them for $2.99 regardless of what they are. Local store will range from $2.99 up to $5.99 depending on if it's Blu-ray or even the number of discs it has. You see the same titles there for a long time. I now travel up to an hour if I want to shop GW when the local store is less than five minutes away.

Considering Goodwill is a Multi-BILLION dollar industry, this just makes the whole “non-profit” business model look like a joke. I really hope there comes a day where people get together and win a fat lawsuit against Goodwill for doing this. We as resellers/thrifters already work very very hard to find that 1 gem, and competing amongst ourselves.
