It's wonderful to see so many familiar faces and hear missed voices in this video. I'm glad to learn that the grande salle has been restored. One day I'll need to revisit. It's been too long. Thinking of you tonight! Warmest greetings from New Orleans, Thomas Spencer

Thank you. Two of my favorite writers. First in 1976 at Clark Community College in Vancouver WA. I took a class which introduced me to Joyce Carol Oates. Later I found myself running to get the newspaper to read Joyce Maynard’s column in the Oregonian. I would talk about her work with my little brother who also loved her work. They were my therapy as I survived much violence in childhood. I have kept this a secret for most of my life until the death of my older brother Bruce who was brutally abused as a small child. No one ever knew what we experienced because it hurt too much to talk about it even to people we trusted. So thank you for being a safe place for me to understand that we were not alone.

its 11 March 2022, the war in the Ukraine rages on. As you all know, ever other word on the news is: oligarch. Ive been fascinated by all the money these men have just out there around. My god how many yachts have we heard about...baffling...anyway, I heard a short interview of Ms. Harrington today, that is how arrived here...

The highest literary rate in the Arab World? Tunisia was doing well, had an economic growth of 6% for some time, petrodollars were flowing in from Iraq, Lebanon and other GCC Nations. It had a well-qualified labour force, excellent hospitals, and a progressive society, without embracing religion or communism. That was its biggest success until Ben Ali came in and destroyed the nation.

We, the people of Europe, want our countries to have nothing to do with the USA. We all want them gone, and gone for good, only we all are suffering from governments of paid off Washington puppets, (who are all clearly only working for the USA), and not a single EU government can ever be seen to be working for their own countries and their own people? We have no anti USA parties we could elect, so no matter who we elect, we end up just doing what we are told by the USA. It will only end up with all of Europe's countries in Civil wars, all of us trying to stop our own government's support of the criminal, illegal, USA foreign policy of outright dirty terrorism, lies, deceit, and stealing.

“A global tax on capital is a utopian idea. It is hard to imagine the nations of the world agreeing on any such thing anytime soon.” -- Thomas Piketty, Capital In The Twenty-First Century, pg 515 FAR from being "a utopian idea," a global wealth tax would be EASY to achieve if the global wealth tax were to have the Woodford Tax design (named after Stiglitz's MUCH more brilliant colleague at Columbia, Michael Woodford, the first economist to win a MacArthur Foundation Award -- in the first year it was awarded -- when Woodford was in his early 20's). The Woodford Tax is an n%/yr global wealth tax designed such that the taxed (the 0.5% of the wealthy and corporations/foundations with NET assets above some level) *** need only pay (n/3)%/yr, 1/3rd the tax amount, if they pay with bank loans ***. Instituting the Woodford Tax would be by 20 orders of magnitude the most lucrative event in the entire history of banking, ERGO, the bank lobby and the global banking industry would order-up the global wealth tax (were it to have the Woodford Tax design). The Woodford Tax would be avoidance-impervious and never able to be repealed. The tax re-purposes the banks from being institutions that hide wealth to making it 100x more lucrative for banks to charge the loan and securitization fees for providing the global wealth tax loans. It would erase any semblance of poverty from the Earth within seven years, provide employment for everyone by funding a multi-trillion dollar/yr not-for-profit, and provide $50TR over eight years for curtailing carbon emissions. The Woodford Tax is the ONLY big solution to the economic problems of the world, and the global COVID economy which is predicted to drive an additional 500MM people into poverty over the next months makes the institution of the Woodford Tax an immediate necessity. Instead of "Workers of the World, UNITE!" what the Woodford Tax does is apply DIVIDE & CONQUER, which has worked so effectively for the plutocracy against the downtrodden since time immemorial, EVEN MORE EFFECTIVELY against the plutocracy itself (by setting the most savage segment of the plutocracy, the banks, against the rest of the plutocracy).
@GeorgeRupp
@GeorgeRupp 3 жыл бұрын
Bankers are generally rich people, so they'll hardly support a wealth tax, UNLESS they can become even richer WITH a wealth tax. That's the brilliance of the Woodford Tax proposal, because it will provide the bankers with many rich and extremely creditworthy debtors, thus opening up whole new avenues of financial products.
@scottsolomon9802
@scottsolomon9802 3 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeRupp Also, the banks know every trick in the book for avoiding taxes, and the banks know where everything is hidden. So if the banks are making an extra $1.5TR+/yr on $20TR+/yr in wealth tax revenues, the banks will be sure that there is not a penny of global wealth tax uncollected. I get to be sorta (JP Morgan + Mandela + Martin Luther King + Gandhi)^10,000 with this thing, wrap it all in a bow, and hand it to Woodford for his birthday. The Woodford Tax would make victory in WWII + the civil rights movement + the moon landing + defeating communism combined seem like only people with no ambition dedicated themselves to. Economists hate the Woodford Tax design because it's a collection of ideas that doesn't entail sitting around and smelling your own farts in your Distinguished or University Chair office but actually entails FIXING a problem.
