Messi pushed Medel first. All Medel did was let the ball go out of play. Normal thing to do when the ball is so close to your goal. That initial push is a yellow card. But after that Medel started aggressively chest bumping Messi, for that Medel deserves a yellow or even a red.

I agree with the call, if you are going to give a red card to one player then you gotta give a red card to the other player, to me both players were body checking eachother so it was instigated by both players, the real right call would be yellow card for each player, but both deserved the same cards! And by the way I don't like Chile as a team, and I'm not even a Ronaldo fan (he is not even in my top 5 GOAT list), so I'm not been bias in this game.

Hasta ese partido vs el Girona en liga y que perdimos y que luego vino esa semana horrorosa en Copa y Champions; el Madrid desde que lo cogio Solari vs Melilla en esa fecha hasta marzo no teniamos el mejor fútbol pero veia al menos coraje garra entrega.... Solari descubrio a Valverde Llorente Ceballos y sobretodo a nuestro mejor jugador Vinicius y cuando alguien flojeaba lo sentaba como Isco Marcelo o Bale. Solo que como no teniamos un referente en ataque por eso en los partidos cruciales todo se fue a pique. Espero y en un futuro próximo espero que Solari tenga una segunda oportunidad y que dirija una temporada completa al Madrid y nos muestre que él tenia razón y estaba dispuesto a arreglar todo agujero que teníamos.

Messi clearly didn’t deserve the red card. Medel was the one who not only initiated the fight but also kept on raising hand on Messi and even then Messi didn’t put his hands on him. He only stood on his ground. I really didn’t understand the judgement of the referee here when he could clearly see in the VAR what happened. Did he expect Messi to run away like a coward?
