I was trying to search for 70's videos to see how my parents used to live but by this time they went down to the Cape. I still wanted to see it in the early 80's though because I know it wouldn't have changed much by then.

Lived in JP back then. Used to go to the Irish Rover in Fields Corner, and my first girlfriend lived right off Adams Street not far from the Erie.

Many people would be shocked to see that Ashmont Hill,Melville Ave and Cedar Grove are part of Dorchester. Those sections are beautiful? What was shown in this video is what many think of when they think of Dorchester.

Dude can’t even pronounce MISSOURI correctly, he kept saying “Missour-AH”. That’s total disrespect for the very vessel that was there to witness the surrender of the Japs that ultimately ended WW2.

I grew up on the South Shore but at this time I was working my first full time job out of college down in Florida and I had come back in January 1985. Dorchester was so different then before the gentrification. Granted it was run down, a bit poorer, a some blight in some areas but it wasn't hideously expensive like it is today. The people in this video seemed to be enjoying themselves, and the young white men there were engaged in athletic pursuits or just hanging out. And everyone was so fit and trim compared to now!

Aaaaaaaah Boston Your My Home . What memories I use to operate a woodworking shop out of the old “Baker Chocolate Factory in Dot Lower Mills and for a time worked also in my late teens rehabbing old triple decors all the way to and on Columbia Rd in the hood. I graduated from Salem HS in Salem, MO and joined the US Navy becoming a helicopter crewman and rescue swimmer. During PacEx 89 my hello flew to the USS Missouri and I got to step on deck. I made my way up the starboard side to assist a PM into a Gumby suit so he could take photos of the Mighty Mo shooting those 16” guns. It was an unforgettable event. Even though I failed to recognize the Admiral when he asked how things were going. My reply was terse and when I stood up and turned around to see the 3 stars on his lapel I apologized for my disrespect. He told me to carry on as I was in the midst of doing my job. I look forward to one day going to Pearl Harbor to stand upon that deck again and pay my respects to my shipmates on the USS Arizona.

You won't be able to hold back a tear, shipmate. It's one of the most emotionally potent experiences I've ever had, looking forward from the starboard side of turret 1 toward Arizona. I was an Airedale so never ship's company, but being a native Missourian myself, standing on her teak deck felt like being home. I witnessed her main battery shell an Iraqi island during the Storm which was mesmerizing. Incidentally, my mom was from Salem. I spent a lot of summers there as a kid and always looked forward to the rodeo at the baseball field.
