Nice kayak but I would prefer it to have a skeg and no clunky rudder and include a forward hatch. 58 cm beam is not too bad but why not go no more that 53-55 cm like the iconic Valley Nordkapp. Otherwise the kayak gets a little boring with too much stability.

Hi I did the same thing, plus a bit more: The sealed lightweight lithium FPV battery is amazing. I added on the FPV pigtail to my setup. With the pigtail I have two power cords coming off of the battery. One line leads to the Rule bilge through a gland in the bulkhead wall, as you have done here. The other line resides in my front bulkhead, where my battery is to a perfectly removable plastic box that's waterproof when shut. ( the box is about 7"x 6" by 4") I put a waterproof FPV gland through the side of the box, and a 2 foot FPV power cord runs through the gland to the inside of the box, where I have an FPV 12v "cigarette" adapter powering a Samsung fast charge car phone charger. The car charger has type C and micro and USB type 2.0 inputs at the ready. I throw my VHF radio battery in the box, my headlamp, phone, etc. and connect them to the car adapter, and then I place the box in my kayak, and connect the pigtail. Any amount of water can get into the kayak bulkhead and nothing in the box can get damp. The box can be unhooked and carried to the tent sealed shut, ( even if its pouring rain your electronics are still dry.) I charge everything repeatedly on a 4 night kayak trips, and the pump still empties my kayak many many times at the end of the trip. FPV12v 17.5AH battery never needed more than that. Thanks.

I'm thinking of buying one of these for kayak camping in Kauai. I've never paddled a surfski so I'm not sure what the learning curve would be. I have paddled whitewater canoes and kayaks, and sit on top ocean expedition kayaks. We gets lots of wind and big swells in Hawaii so i think i would actually feel pretty safe in this as opposed to a traditional sea kayak

Great vid! I’m paddling and camping in an epic 18x sport. In PNW USA our water is cold, rains a lot, and prefer an enclosed cockpit. BUT love your hull speed!! I have a few 18x sport reviews on my channel and just camped and kayaked with Orcas! Will put that vid up this Sunday! Like your camera angles too 👍

Yes 18x rolls very easily, its long so has a lot of bouncy and the chine is very rounded so it rolls easier than most sea kayaks. Can hand roll it too.

Great into video Mark. Agree this is a great innovation. Interested to understand how it compares to a decent fully loaded kayak in bigger conditions. Also wonder about how you’d manage surf landings? What do you imagine the limitations are compared to say your audax?
@MarkSundin
@MarkSundin 5 ай бұрын
We've done the test with gear Barry, and it is a well designed hull that handles a load. Surf landings are possibly a little less intimidating as you don't have to roll if you get trashed coming in, I know I always feel pretty fearless coming in to land on my ski. Compared to a full blown expedition sea kayak like the Audax it has less volume, not the same bombproof construction (but the V8 Tourer is lovely and light), and a skilful paddler who can roll a decked kayak will always be a more seaworthy paddler than anyone in an open decked craft, especially on a wild day at sea.

Wow. So happy this. Came up into my feed. Is someone that loves the idea of touring and has had a V8 and a V8 pro. This is super exciting. I live in Nicaragua. I'm sure there's no epic store coming here anytime soon, but I'll definitely be exploring this. And the possibility of getting from. Miami. Interesting to see the comments about sale. I'm sure you'll be looking at. Really fun modifications of this for the future to serve a growing market. Also requested to know the dimensions how it compares to a. V8 Pro, because I absolutely adored that boat. Very sorry to have had the seller. To come to this country.

Nope not a lot of thought gone into the touring side of this compromise. Where do you secure the hatch covers when accessing them on water? That's assuming you are able to reach them at all.
@MarkSundin
@MarkSundin 5 ай бұрын
I can honestly say that in 20+ years of big water expeditioning in cutting-edge sea kayak designs, I've never even tried to access a main hatch (as opposed to a day hatch) whilst out on the ocean. The hatches are both tethered so if they did manage to come off somehow they won't sink or float away, but not sure why you'd think opening them out on the sea was a good idea?

Which model of Tiderace Pace is this boat? Will the Bigfoot fit the Pace 18? I’m assuming its adjustability make this possible, but can you still use the already existing side rails? Thank you.
@tommyrq180
@tommyrq180 8 ай бұрын
@@MarkSundin Thank you for the quick reply! In the States, most all the “fast sea kayak” makers (except Epic) use side braces. Especially the Brits. Rockpool even said they would not install a center footplate and didn’t know why anyone would want one. I’m new to the fast sea kayak world but I’m a bike racer who wants to go fast and long in a sea kayak. I don’t see why I should sacrifice leg drive OR side knee bracing as long as the cockpit allows. Tiderace (Nelo) offers a center foot brace on their website but my dealer cannot get them to advise us whether it fits the Pace 18 (which is a beautiful and apparently efficient design) so we’re looking for a solution. I’m new to this particular world (long-time river kayak and canoe paddler) so I could be wrong. Are many people Down Under using a decked sea kayak, center foot brace, and leg drive? Thank you so much!

@@tommyrq180 short answer yes...! We are a decade ahead in Australia when it comes to adoption of modern sea kayak shapes, but it's very hard to broaden the thinking of the people who lay claim to having invented sea kayaking.. The Smart Track rudder transom-mounted is fantastic; the toe pilot foot peg system is a throwback to the 'old British way' and bears no resemblance to a modern race boat. Tiderace's Nelo K2 footplate is quite complicated by comparison to the simplicity of the Bigfoot, we ordered a few in Tiderace boats that we imported and they haven't proved to be particularly robust in the sea environment.

Nice one! Every time I watch your channel I end up buying new kit, it's gotten to the point my wife is terrified of you.. First the Shelta hat, then the Railblaza 600... Which brings me to my next question\purchase: which camera do you use here, and what is the stabilization setting? My very first test of the Railblaza was way too shaky for my taste (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mqd-nLCLya_bXWw.html) so I'm contemplating buying the DJI Action 4 instead of my old Gopro 6. Will that do the trick of making me shake rather than the horizon? The reason I picked this vid is that you shake a lot here, yet the frame remains more or less stable
