I got sepsis and addison's crisis last december, woke up in the hospital after a concerned friend couldn't get a hold of me. Had high fever the day before, doubled the cortison and eventually went to bed around 6 in the evening. My friend found me in the bed at noon the following day and called the ambulance. I call her my lifesaver, I was in a very rough state in the ER, had to be in an artifical coma, but after just a week I could go home w/o fever and feeling ok. Luckily I live in Norway, so nothing to pay for.

Regarding AP pad placement for BLS services: at least on the Lifepak 15, the manual (see page 117 in Chapter 5) states that AP placement is not to be used in AED mode. AFAIK, most BLS services do not manually defibrillate.
