Just finished the series today and this really helped to wrap up the loose ends I still had. Probably one of the best vids of watched on YT.

ok but, genuine question: I understand that kaworu was using shinji's happiness to make himself happy, but why exactly is that a problem. Like yea its a tad selfish, but at the same time his intentions are good. Also i don't understand why kaworu couldn't end up with shinji?? like its clear that had an at least somewhat more than friends kind of dynamic based off of the original series, and 3.0, plus they have a lot more history/chemistry than shinji does with mari. It would make complete sense for kaworu, shinji's one person who truly cared and understood him (within 3.0 at least), to be the one to end up with him. On the other hand mari has zero history in shinji's life, they barley know each other, she simply says "hey hoe, i'm coming back for u aha", and we're supposed to be like.... um ahhhh yes, shinji will just decide to start a relationship with this random woman that he's talked to like.. twice???! Like sure, i know that rei and asuka are not the healthy option for shinji and as such can't be with him for a happy ending. Also mari is quite literally just the self insert of anno's wife, but seriously... c'mon. I just wanted the final film to at least give me a reason to care about mari. To me she's this soulless manic pixie dream girl thats there to comfort shinji and that, for me at least, didn't feel like enough nor well earn't for such a character based show. I also know that having kaworu and shinji together would be confirming a homosexual relationship and for a main character of an extremely beloved and well known franchise i think that would mean possible backlash, BUT i for narrative purposes, again, i just see it as a better fit. Honestly i'd be fine with any character new or old being with shinji, just as long as the reason behind it makes SENSE. Idk. anyone reading this please give me your thoughts.

You put so much time into trying to understand this anime but less than 4 minutes into the video you pronounce Seele as "seal"? A quick google search could have helped but, like, that's not even how they say it in the anime. Anyway I stopped watching after that. If you make an hour long video trying to explain a show and can't even get the names right why bother?

The manga has Mari in it, the manga's completion was in line with the rebuilds and is a third loop. She's part of a relationship triangle with Yui and Gendo... in the way that Gendo blocks potential happiness between Mari and Yui. Happens when they're in school together. With Mari being Anno's idea of injecting a character representing his wife, I guess we can assume her fondness for Yui was the connection that sparked her to fall for Shinji

There are people in this comment section saying Prisma Illya is worth it, and it honestly depends. If you're the type of person to look at anime fans performing their usual degenerate actions and think "relatable", go for it. If you're like everyone else and would be disgusted at those actions, you probably shouldn't. Maybe just watch Oath under Snow and be prepared to go in without much context, at the very most. Prisma Illya very much markets itself to a certain type of fan. If you don't fall under that banner, you're gonna have a tough time with it.

I noticed one inconsistency that needs to be pounted out. When you first talked about Mari, you had said it was Anno who wanted to have a new pilot, so he did. Now, here at the end, it was asked of Anno to have a new pilot, and so he did. It's interesting that you spoke of the series of being inconsistent and about perception, while also making this, mistake? This is by no means intended to be a negative statement. Just something I thought was interesting in your script and subtly adds to it, even if unintended. Other than that, I found the series to also be about the love, hope and desires we have for other people. How we've built them up in our minds and how that shapes our perception of those around us. For the best or worst reasons.

One thing I read is that Mari is based on Anno's Wife, so basically, that's why she end up with Shinji since he's just Anno's analogue. Anno found his own happy ending and, rather sweetly I think, couldn't imagine a better one for Shinji.
